HOW TO MAKE YOUR HOLIDAY IN RHODES INTERESTING?

However, make sure that before evening you have visited all the attractions and museums of the city that interest you, because some of them close at 20:00, and in winter even at 18:00 or even at 17:00.

What to see in Rhodes on your own?

The main and most monumental attraction is, of course, the Palace of the Grand Masters, founded in troubled medieval times by the Knights Hospitaller.

The palace passed into different hands at different times: in 1522, during a siege by the Turkish army, it was captured, and during the Second World War it was planned to become a refuge for the dictator Mussolini, but did not. After the war, the Palace began to belong to Greece.

Today the Palace is a UNESCO heritage site.

It’s definitely worth a walk along Knights Street, preferably in the evening.

It is noteworthy that this street is a carriageway, although it is paved with paving stones, and it is also very, very narrow. It can accommodate only 1 car, and there is a narrow sidewalk for pedestrians.

Perhaps only the old city will be of interest to tourists; the new high-rise buildings on the outskirts are similar to the same high-rise buildings in other cities of the world, with the only exception that there is a beautiful sea splashing nearby and golden beaches.

I started my independent sightseeing of Rhodes from the ancient Acropolis, which is located about 6 km from the old city. A taxi took me to the Acropolis, and then I walked quietly so that the path was downhill.

The Acropolis offers breathtaking views of the city of Rhodes, and if you cross the road, you can take stunning photos with the sea and the rest of Rhodes in the background. Through the camera lens you can even see the airport runway.

The main attraction of the Acropolis is the ruins of the Temple of Apollo, as well as the Olympic Stadium, which is located just below and adjacent to the amphitheater.

The Acropolis Amphitheater looks very beautiful, but it was obviously destroyed during an earthquake and restored, but the stadium itself is simply mesmerizing!

This stadium is truly unique, as it is the only Olympic stadium of antiquity (3rd century BC) that has completely preserved its original appearance.

Greek schoolchildren are brought to the stadium for physical education lessons, and not for the first time I am amazed at how familiar the locals are with their ancient sights. Although...when you literally walk through antiquities, you can get used to everything.

On the way from the Acropolis, I saw the ruins of the Temple of Athena, which also made a strong impression on me. The ancient column lies right next to the road; you can easily lie down on the column and pose for the camera.

In the city of Rhodes itself, it is interesting to walk inside the fortress walls and walk along Socrates Street. There are many interesting taverns there; if time permits, you can stop at one of them for lunch, for example.

The Archaeological Museum located in the old town is also noteworthy. A lot of finds created before the birth of Christ lie in this museum. It is an indescribable pleasure to contemplate them.

The only negative is that for some reason you are not allowed to bring a tripod into any of the museums in Rhodes. For some reason, in this city, a tripod is considered an artifact of professional photography, and the fact that you are alone and are going to photograph your precious self is not an argument. You leave the tripod on guard and then just go to the museum.

Inside the Archaeological Museum there is a garden surrounded by antiquities. It looks something like this.

The easiest way to get back from Rhodes city is by taxi. Also, the city of Rhodes is good because, unlike coastal hotels and other remote places, the city itself has no seasonality, local residents permanently live in it, which means that if you have the desire and opportunity to book a ticket for a regular flight, you can come to Rhodes on your own and at any time of the year.

RODINI PARK.

Another interesting attraction of the island of Rhodes, recommended for independent visiting, is Rodini Park. The most convenient way to get there and back is also by taxi. The park is located just 3 km from the city of Rhodes, but the access to it is not very convenient for walking due to fairly heavy traffic.

I got to the park right after heavy rain, arrived on a weekday, and can you believe me that I was absolutely alone in the entire park?

It was just an unforgettable feeling, as if the park was completely yours. Only once did a local resident approach the park on a moped.

Rodini Park is very old, it was built by the ancient Romans. The feeling is that you find yourself in the era of Cicero and Julius Caesar, who also once walked here.

This park also contains the tomb of Ptolemy, which I did not find. Fortunately, probably, because I’m a little scared to wander around the tombs alone.

The cafe in the park is not open, I didn’t see any peacocks, probably because the park was still a little damp after the rain. In general, the park gives the impression of some abandonment and emptiness, but it is still a very worthy attraction.

The park itself is small, but very green and beautiful. In hot weather, it will greatly brighten up your stay on the island.

ISLAND OF TILOS.

If you get a chance to visit the island of Tilos, even if on a group excursion, I recommend doing it. My trip to Tilos was canceled due to a storm, unfortunately, but it was there that I intended to go in mid-October to observe the migration of colonies of rare birds, characteristic only of these regions.

In the midst tourist season You can easily get to Tilos on your own; there are regular ferries from the island of Rhodes, the schedule of which can be found on the Internet, and perhaps even bought a ticket.

AIRPORT.

For lovers of spotting, the local airport will be noteworthy. It is located only 14 km from mine, I’m a sporty girl, so I decided to walk to the airport :)

But, I must say, 14 km in Moscow and 14 km in Rhodes are two big differences, especially when you walk them in the heat. By the end of the journey, I regretted a hundred times why I didn’t take a taxi. And back I was ready to catch any cab driver with checkers from the airport and go for any money :)

But the walk is also worthy, because it allows you to look at the life of the island’s inhabitants from the inside, and not from the window of a tourist bus.

After having lunch at one of the seaside taverns, I wandered further, saw luxury villas, a BP gas station, modest budget low-rise buildings, around which it was very clean and tangerine trees grew, and when I finally got to the airport, I was rewarded with huge planes landing in a field and then on to GDP. The airport is very small, so planes can be seen from almost everywhere.

Of course, these are not all the attractions, there is also the village of Lindos, and Filiraki Hill, and the Valley of the Butterflies and much, much more, which, unfortunately, my hands and feet did not reach. But I hope that I can come to the island again, when there is no storm on Tilos, and I will finish watching this movie.

In the last article, I already told you in general, but in this article we will talk about the most interesting sights of Rhodes.

I’ll show you cool places on the island, its incredibly beautiful bays, beaches, observation decks, preserved medieval towns, monuments ancient civilization, and even places of power.

So, if you are going to spend your holidays in Greece, then this article about the sights of Rhodes with all the marks on the map is just for you :)

So, let's go!

The city of Rhodes, which bears the same name as the island, is also the capital, and was built by the Knights Hospitaller. The streets here are lined with cobblestones, old houses, palaces and churches, a fortress and gates have been preserved.

Myself Old city included in the list of World cultural heritage. By the way, the Rhodes Fortress is the longest in Europe - 4 km, and to get to the city center you need to go through 11 fortress gates. On the lawns along the wall you can see cannonballs; they reached the fortress, made potholes, but did not pierce it through.

We really enjoyed walking around the Old Town, it is somehow completely atypical for old Europe, more reminiscent of an eastern town, with winding labyrinths of streets. We have not been to Turkey, but they say it is very similar to a Turkish town with arrows of minarets and Turkish houses with traditional balconies.

The Mosque of Suleiman the Magnificent is one of the few buildings from the Turkish period that has survived to this day.

And the most photographed objects in the town are the Street of Knights

and the Palace of the Grand Masters.

Just outside the gates of the Old Town is also the pleasant port of Mandraki,

with the Italian Church of the Annunciation, with very beautiful interiors, atypical for Greek churches.

We lived only 5 km from the town, one day, during a morning jog along the sea, I just reached the port) Here, at the entrance to the harbor, there is an ancient lighthouse and 2 symbols of the city - the Rhodian deer and the doe, they stand on columns opposite each other friend, and a little further - medieval mills.

It’s worth coming to the town of Rhodes even just to watch the sunset or dine in one of the many restaurants,

and then, of course, stroll along its streets and watch the local residents.

U local residents There is a tradition - every evening to place chairs next to the house and just sit, look at passers-by or gossip about something with neighbors.

Ancient Kamiros

From the ancient town of Kamiros (9th century BC) only the ruins of tiny houses, temples and the semblance of streets and squares remain; the palaces are only half restored.

If you have a wild imagination, then you can safely go to Ancient Kamiros to wander among the ruins, vividly imagining how the ancient Greeks once lived here.

Well, we found a couple of good ones here marine species, and for general acquaintance we also took a short walk among the ruins :)

Mount Tsambika in Rhodes is sacred; at its top there is a monastery of the same name, to which a staircase of 307 steps leads. This is a pilgrimage path that especially believers overcome on their knees.

The church has its own legend - once upon a time, here on the top of a hill the Greeks discovered a miraculous icon of the Holy Mother of God, which belonged to the Church of Cyprus, and no matter how much they tried to return the icon to its place, it always returned here. As a result, a small church was built for the icon.

And the miracle of the icon is due to the fact that even childless couples trying in vain to have a child, visiting this place, were sure to receive a long-awaited gift. Now this miraculous icon is kept in the monastery at the foot, but the ritual of climbing the hill and lighting a candle has still been preserved.

Well, from the top of the hill there is a stunning view of the bay and the long sandy beach of Tsambika.

Petaloudes Valley or Butterfly Valley

The Valley of the Butterflies is a pleasant park in a narrow gorge, with numerous paths, bridges, and moss-covered steps, which are especially good to walk on in the sultry heat, hiding under the shade of storax trees.

In the summer there is a unique opportunity to see in one place tens of thousands of bear butterflies, which flock here every year to the smell of fragrant resin and hang in clusters on the stones

and trees.

I can’t say that butterflies are beauties, you won’t even notice them right away, they are masters of camouflage 🙂 and what is rather striking is their number, the very fact of such a huge accumulation in one place. There are several waterfalls and streams in the park, the breath is fresh, in general, you can safely spend half an hour, or even an hour, for a walk along the gorge!

Mount Filerimos

Path along cypress alley with numerous bas-reliefs, along which you can climb highest point the mountain, topped with a huge 17-meter cross (which was also once climbable), was nicknamed “The Way of Golgotha”, because the distance is equal to what Jesus walked while carrying his cross.

The place reminded us of a mountain with a cross :)

Don’t repeat our mistake - if there is haze in the sky, then you should postpone your visit until the evening, especially since there should be a stunning view of the sunset from this mountain.

Well, on a clear day with good visibility, you can clearly see 2 Greek cities at once - the resort of Ixia and the ancient Ialyssos. We were there during the day, so, alas, we did not experience the delight of seeing the subtle outlines of the cities.

But as a bonus, we had a blast chasing peacocks, there are tons of them here, and yes, we were in the mating season, when they fluff their tails :)

Well, of course, lovers of ruins will appreciate the preserved ancient ruins of the ancient town of Ialisa, with the ruins of the temple of Zeus and Athena, as well as knightly castles with frescoes and the Church of the Virgin Mary.

Lindos

The stunning whitewashed ancient town of Lindos is considered quintessentially Greek,

and definitely a must visit!

It is difficult to see as many tourists as here in any other place in Rhodes; this is a very popular place among both travelers and locals.

This ancient town at the foot of the hill dates back to the 6th century BC. e.,

and has survived to this day,

It’s nice to stroll here as well as through the narrow colorful streets of the city,

and climb to the ancient Acropolis and the walls of the knight's castle, from where a stunning view of the heart-shaped lagoon with azure water opens - St. Paul's Bay.

This is perhaps the most beautiful bay on the island; according to legend, the Apostle Paul stopped here on his way to Jerusalem, which is why the bay is named after him. The small church in this bay is extremely popular for wedding ceremonies.

And you can climb the hill with the Acropolis either on foot or on donkeys; we preferred the first option, at the same time we looked closely at the handicrafts of local craftswomen.

I don’t really like ruins, but if they are located somewhere on a mountain, then we definitely go up there.

Because the views from the hill are so breathtaking!

If there is no haze, then you can see not only the city at the foot and the neighboring sandy beach with a bay where you just want to refresh yourself, but also endless expanses, including St. Peter’s Bay and neighboring islands.

After a walk along the Acropolis (by the way, it is the second most important after Athens),

we went downstairs and had lunch in the old town in one of the view taverns, I don’t even remember what I liked more – the view and atmosphere of the restaurant or the fresh seafood in it :)

In this place there really are 7 springs, small streams that flow from underground and form a lake. Of interest to tourists, as well as to us, is another object in the neighborhood - a dark narrow tunnel, which actually leads to this very lake.

Every second tourist wants to tickle their nerves and walk through the tunnel. The fact is that the tunnel is completely dark, and you need to walk through it barefoot, finding yourself ankle-deep in cold water; using phones and flashlights is not recommended, so as not to disturb the atmosphere and the mysteries of the legend.

There are 2 beliefs associated with the tunnel, by walking through which you can choose to either become 10 years younger or get rid of 7 sins. We got through it too - I don’t know, maybe we were rejuvenated :)

Well, behind the tunnel, if you walk a little to the side along the nature trail, you can see a beautiful artificial waterfall.

Kallithea Springs (Kallithea Baths)

Once upon a time in ancient times there were healing springs here,

now it's just nice natural complex with the former name Kallithea Springs,

where you can swim in crystal clear water, sunbathe on sun loungers and have a snack in a cafe.

In general, the nature in the area is simply amazing, especially the sea cliffs.

The ancient marble pavilions have been restored, so that in their shade and coolness you can hide from the hot sun.

Anthony Quinn Cove

This bay is named after a real person - the famous actor of the last century, writer and artist Anthony Quinn. The film “The Guns of the Island of Navarone” with his participation was filmed in the bay, but the Greeks themselves fell in love with Anthony Quinn for the film masterpiece “Zorba the Greek,” in which the actor performed a Greek dance, and the melody from which became a hit. By the way, the film “Zorba the Greek” won an Oscar.

At the end of filming, the actor rented a house in a picturesque bay, and then bought it to stay here for a long time. The government was very pleased with the presence of the star, or rather, the effect that his presence had - the bay began to attract tourists/fans of the actor like a magnet, so it was decided to give the bay the name of the actor.

I’m sure that even if Anthony Quinn didn’t live in this bay, and it would have been called something else, tourists would still choose this place! Firstly, the bay itself, framed by fancy rocks, is like a natural place - very picturesque, the water changes its color from turquoise to sapphire during the day, and secondly, it’s not difficult to get here - public transport runs to the nearest resort towns, from which you can already walk to the bay.

Now Anthony Quinn Bay is one of the most beautiful and pleasant beaches on the island for relaxation - the clearest water, the bay is protected from waves and wind, there are sun loungers, umbrellas, showers and a cafe.

Ostrich farm

There is a place in Rhodes that is definitely worth a visit, especially if you are vacationing on the island with children - this is an ostrich farm

and a mini zoo next to it.

At the entrance you can buy bags of corn grains and feed the ostriches - this is the main entertainment. At the same time, only 2-3 of the calmest males are allocated for feeding, who eat from their hands carefully, while females are not allowed near tourists at all, because they often behave inappropriately)

On the farm, ostriches are housed in families - one male and 2-3 females live in a pen. Males are quite aggressive and if you place two adult males with a female, they will fight for their status to the last, until one of them dies. But in general, ostriches, it turns out, live quite a long time, about 60-70 years.

Ostriches are raised for meat and to hatch eggs. They lay eggs at the age of 2 to 35 years, and incubate each for about 40 days, and use young individuals for meat, up to 1 year.

One ostrich egg weighs about 2 kg, enough for about 10 omelettes. There is also a restaurant at the farm where you can try omelettes, steaks and cutlets made from ostrich meat. There is also a souvenir shop where you can buy all sorts of crafts made from shells, and also, on the farm you can see the world’s largest rosary, also made from eggs, of course, they are under glass)

Vineyards

Most of the vineyards of Rhodes are located around Mount Attaviros, at altitudes reaching 800 m. In the highlands, the white variety Athyri is grown, and the red variety Mandidarya (Amoriano) is cultivated in the flat areas.

Both vineyards can be visited to taste/buy various wines as a gift, or simply to have lunch overlooking the endless grape fields.

In summer, the grapes are still unripe, so we weren’t able to eat fresh fruits from the bush :)

If you see some kind of local production, be it a soap factory, a honey farm or a ceramic workshop, don’t be shy, you can stop by, look and ask the craftsmen everywhere.

The Greeks are friendly enough, they will bite you))

As a rule, all workshops and farms have their own shop where you can buy products from their craft.

Prasonissi

There is another attraction of Rhodes on the island, which we, alas, did not get to, is called “the kiss of two seas.” Yes, that’s right, because when you come here, you can swim in two seas at once - the Aegean and Mediterranean.

This place is located on the very southern cape Rhodes, and the seas are separated by a huge sand spit. The place was chosen by kiters and surfers. I really love places like this!

So, for us, this is at least one significant reason to return to the island of Rhodes someday.

Finally

Excellent beaches, developed infrastructure, extensive excursion program, the most picturesque places on the island - all this makes Rhodes one of the most popular tourist destinations in Greece.

You can travel around Rhodes either by public transport, or by rented car or motorbike, the choice is yours.

The latest options will undoubtedly make your vacation more varied and mobile. We saw all the places described in the article while traveling by car; the roads and traffic on the island are normal. Along the way we discovered and visited several interesting places, where we didn’t originally plan to visit :)

Rent a car in Rhodes

We looked for a rental car in several places: firstly, we asked on the spot (since we didn’t need a car on the first day of arrival, we didn’t book in advance, although we usually do just that), but either there was nothing available, or the prices were higher, or insurance conditions were worse.

We have also made a selection good hotels in different price categories close to excellent beaches.

Where to stay

When thinking about where to stay on the island, give preference to the cozy village of Faliraki. To get to know the entire island in a short time, it is best to rent a car for a couple of days and explore the island on your own for the rest of the days.

Day 1. Relax in Faliraki - try Greek cuisine, relax in the Water Park water park

Faliraki is the largest village of Rhodes, located close to the airport, and has become a center of fun and entertainment for tourists. Calm and quiet resort during the day with golden sandy beaches, with its sky-blue sea and cozy taverns in the evenings it turns into the center of nightlife.

You can spend the morning at cleanest beach, and when the sun starts to heat up, it's time to think about lunch, a cool drink and a shady shelter. There are taverns, cafes and restaurants at every turn in Faliraki, and in all of them you can try Greek cuisine. Of the many Greek dishes that are definitely worth trying, perhaps the first most important is moussaka. This is a juicy puff casserole with meat and eggplants served with an airy and creamy béchamel sauce. Despite its apparent airiness, moussaka is an incredibly satisfying dish; you can safely eat it for two.

If you're looking for a thrill after lunch, head to the Water Park for a variety of rides, pools and extreme high-speed slides that will take your breath away. Getting to the water park is not difficult: a bus runs from the center of Faliraki directly to the water park. In the summer months you can splash around in the Water Park until 7 pm, in other months until 6 pm.

Day 2. Sights of the old town

Most of the island's attractions are located in the capital of Rhodes of the same name, conventionally divided into the Old Town and New town. Modern Rhodes is unlikely to surprise you with anything - this is an ordinary part of the city, with a large number of hotels and shops, but the old city is loved by tourists due to its medieval atmosphere. You can get to the old part through numerous gates, such as the Port Gate or the D'Amboise Gate.

The most “knightly” attraction is considered to be the Palace of the Grand Masters, from where they ruled the island. The street of the Knights of John, medieval, goes directly to the palace architectural monument, each knowledge of which is special.

In the old town, despite the atmosphere of ancient times, you can always find a cozy restaurant, but if you want to take a walk, you can buy gyros - the Greek equivalent of Arabic shawarma, seasoned with spicy tzatziki sauce, and eat it on the go.

If the heat is exhausting, you can while away the time at the Rhodes Archaeological Museum, admiring the results archaeological excavations and, of course, the most valuable exhibits - marble sculptures of Aphrodite and Zeus. And when the evening cool descends on the city, take a walk to the Rhodian Acropolis: it will amaze you with its monumentality.

Day 3. Lindos - explore the Acropolis, buy gifts, try meze

On the third day, you can rent a car and go to explore the rest of the island, first of all, the town of Lindos, located in the east. However, driving a car through its center will be difficult: the streets are narrow and winding, but you can ride a donkey along them.

Like Faliraki, Lindos is beautiful tourist resort, which, however, has preserved more traditions and Greek flavor, the main source of which is the ancient Acropolis. In addition to the attractions (the ruins of the temples of Athena Lindos and St. John), the Acropolis also deserves attention due to its unforgettable view of the island.

After enjoying such beauty, you can treat yourself to another Greek dish - meze. In essence, meze is an assortment for every taste: vegetables, cheese, meat, seafood and various sauces. It’s immediately clear: this dish is for at least two!

After your meal, wander around the souvenir shops: you can buy cute leather and ceramic products, shoes, and jewelry. And driving a little away from Lindos, you will see the picturesque Vlicha Bay, a romantic place where you can relax before heading back.

Day 4. Ostrich farm and Prasonisi island

In the center of the island there is a zoo - an ostrich farm, a joy for both children and adults, so it’s worth starting the morning with communication with the animals. Among the inhabitants of the zoo are various species of birds, camels, donkeys, deer, ostriches (for example, there are more than 120 species). Exotic lovers can try a sandwich with an ostrich meat cutlet for only 4 euros!

Children will happily ride camels, and shopping lovers will be able to buy “ostrich” souvenirs: eggs, feathers and crafts made from them. And those who liked the sandwich with an ostrich cutlet will also be able to try ostrich fried eggs in the cafe located on the territory of the zoo.

After lunch, it’s time to head south and visit the “green island” - Prasonisi, washed by the Mediterranean and Aegean seas. In the summer months, the water level drops, and the island turns into a small sandy isthmus, on both sides of which two different seas splash: the calm Mediterranean and the raging Aegean. Swimming and water sports there are a pleasure: the clear sandy bottom and crystal waters are ideal for swimming, and the strong wind attracts windsurfers and kitesurfers from all over the world.

Day 5. Shopping

You can end your holiday in Greece with shopping. In addition to ceramic souvenirs, it is worth bringing olive oil, Greek wine, olives and natural cosmetics. Many people go to Greece for fur coats, and they are right: fur coats there are really cheaper than in Russia, and at the same time very high quality! In Faliraki, a store with fur coats is located right behind the water park, where, having chosen a fur coat to suit your taste, you can, sipping champagne, wait a couple of hours until it is customized “to suit you”.

Beaches of unearthly beauty, ancient cities and castles with rich history, unique culture, cozy hotels and low prices - this is what attracts tourists from all over the world to Rhodes. Are you ready to see this unique island? Then you have come to the right place: we have studied it inside and out and have compiled a guide to Rhodes for you, where the most detailed, useful and interesting information awaits you. Let's start our guide to Rhodes with a little historical background. Rhodes is one of the most big islands Greece, ranks fourth in area in the country. The population is 115 thousand people, of which almost half (50 thousand) live in the capital of the island, the city of Rhodes. Together with Kos, Patmos, Symi and other islands, Rhodes is part of the Dodecanese archipelago. It is located much closer to Turkey than to mainland Greece: from the port of Rhodes to Turkish Marmaris in a straight line - only 50 km, while to Athens - as much as 450. Rhodes is washed by two seas at once: the Aegean in the west and the Mediterranean in the east.

So lucky geographical position for centuries it has made Rhodes a tasty piece of land for a variety of civilizations. Back in the 16th century BC the Minoans from Crete ruled here, then the ancient Greeks, Persians, Byzantines, Arabs, again Persians, again Greeks... Since ancient times, Rhodes was part of Byzantium, until the Knights Hospitaller captured it at the beginning of the 14th century. For two centuries, the island became the main residence of the knightly order, and the city of Rhodes in the north of the island became its capital. It was then that the most important historical sights of Rhodes were built, which have survived to this day: the Palace of the Grand Masters, the Street of Knights, the Rhodes Fortress, etc.

At the beginning of the 16th century, Rhodes was captured by the Turks. The Ottomans ruled the island for almost 400 years, in 1912 they were replaced by the Italians, and in 1948 Rhodes “returned to its homeland”, becoming part of Greece. Now can you imagine how much blood is mixed in the inhabitants of Rhodes and how many cultures and civilizations have left their traces here, which are visible literally at every step? This alone is worth moving to this amazing island! But there are also dozens of stunning, breathtaking beaches for every taste: for tourists with children, for divers, and for windsurfers... All this makes the island of Rhodes one of the most popular for travelers from different countries, including Russia.

Socrates Street in the city of Rhodes is the real soul of the island. Here the Greek, Turkish, and knightly heritage of Rhodes merged together.

Weather in Rhodes and when is the best time to go

Rhodes is one of the most southern islands Greece. That's why holiday season lasts longer here than on many other islands. Most of the local hotels are closed in winter, as well as in March and April, and from May 1, in honor of the Day of Proletariat Solidarity, resort workers Fr. Rhodes, in a single impulse, opens the hospitable doors of holiday homes and boarding houses. The air temperature in May is simply ideal (from 22 to 29 degrees), but the water in the early days is still cool, but by the middle or end of the month, as a rule, it gradually warms up to a comfortable +20...+22. However, local belief says that on the beaches of all-inclusive hotels the water is always warmer. We don’t know whether this is true or not, but for some reason there really are more swimmers there.

July and August are the hottest months in Rhodes in all senses. At this time, there is the hottest weather, the warmest sea, the largest number of tourists and, accordingly, the highest prices for tours, hotels and air tickets. So-called “Middle season” in Rhodes is June, September and early October, when the sea is still (or already) very warm, the streets are not so stuffy, prices are not so high, and the crowds are not so large.

From mid-October, the weather in Rhodes gradually deteriorates: it rains more, the waves rise, the temperature drops and most hotels close until the end of April. However, even in winter many tourists come to Rhodes. From November to March, life on the island calms down and a unique opportunity arises to get around the sights of Rhodes without the tourist crowds.
