What is the best beach in south goa. goa white sand beaches

23.10.2021

Goa is considered to be one of the most visited states in India. He deserved such fame due to the fact that the length of the coastline is more than 100 km, which makes it possible for visitors to easily find a place for beach holiday on the coast. The beaches of Goa are something of a state attraction. There are a lot of them here and for every "taste", and descriptions and photos of places will be below.

Goa is divided into northern and southern parts. And although at first glance they do not have strict geographical differences, they are still different.

North Goa is considered a place of mass gathering of young people, active life, parties . This part is also called a refuge for all creative, out-of-the-box thinking people. In the 60s of the last century, hippies began to arrive here in search of a corner of paradise on Earth. And found, as many settled here.

South Goa, in turn, is a kind of opposite . Of course, there is also a lot of entertainment here, but they are somewhat different. In general, South Goa will be more expensive due to the fact that it has many more luxury hotels, luxurious restaurants and well-maintained beaches than North Goa.

North Goa beaches

  1. Querim beach. The northernmost beach of North Goa, the length of which is about 5 km. It is not crowded here, as tourists do not really like this place. Perhaps the reason for this is the lack of infrastructure and the fact that the beach is not cleared of leaves, branches and other debris. Often in Kerim you can see crabs, birds and even snakes on the shore.

Kerim
  1. Siridao Beach. It is located near the Zuari River. It is presented in the form of a sandy-stony narrow coastal strip. There are water attractions, several restaurants and bars, important architectural monuments. It also doesn't hurt.

  1. Anjuna beach. This is a very popular beach in Goa, which especially attracts party-goers and lovers of having a good time listening to the sounds of Goan trance music. The places are picturesque. It is better to swim in the southern part of the beach, as it is protected from strong waves by a rocky cape.

  1. Baga beach. It is part of a 30 km coastline. The places are very picturesque, because in addition to the soft sandy beach itself, there is also a rocky and wooded area, which gives them a special flavor. It is quite calm here, there is no large influx of tourists, so fans of fishing and water sports love this place. At night, life on Baga Beach does not cease to boil, but on the contrary, it only becomes more active.

  1. Arambol beach. A secluded, calm place that attracts those who like to meditate under the sound of the waves or, conversely, "disconnect" from everything. The nature here is amazing! We can say that it has been preserved almost in its original form. Swimming here is convenient. You can also do mud therapy.

Arambol in Goa
  1. Vagator beach. Another place of calm and isolation from the hectic life. There are usually not many people here, although the beauty of the wild Indian nature is mesmerizing. Nearby is Chapora, where you can visit the fishing village and the famous fort. Sunset Field on Vagator also hosts Goa Trance style parties.

Vagator
  1. Candolim beach. It is considered to be one of the three places that must be visited upon arrival in Goa (the other two are Calangute and Akuda Fort). It can be described as a quiet and secluded place. Those who want to spend time away from the noise, the saturated rhythm of city life come here. In addition to sunbathing and swimming, you can also go fishing. By the way, there are no hotels on this beach.

  1. Calangute beach. Another of the most famous beaches in Goa. It is very difficult to outshine the beauty of this place. Just look at these pictures. Golden soft sand, clean coastline, framed by coconut trees, beautiful mountains. In addition to the amazing nature, the tourist infrastructure is very well developed here. In this area, you can easily buy everything you need in stalls and shops. There are several bars and restaurants near the beach. Night life it's not very rough here.

  1. Morjim beach. It is a picturesque, small and peaceful place to stay. Its peculiarity is that it is here that sea turtles reproduce. If you come here from November to March, you can see a lot of little turtles that are just starting to take their first steps.
  1. Chapora beach. Everything is beautiful here: the bewitching sea, white velvet sand, tropical greenery, local attractions, including the ancient Chapora Fort.

Chapora
  1. Ashwem beach located . Great place for families with children. There are shallow depressions into which sea water is poured. Under the hot sun, it heats up so much that it is very pleasant to soak up in it. There are usually almost no tourists here.

Ashvem

Even in North Goa you can go to Mandrem beach- one of the most peaceful, party-free places in this part of the state.

But lovers of fun, communication and outdoor activities can visit Sinquerim beach.

On the small area of Vainguinim beach, which is only 200 m long, you can lie on the soft sand, splash in the sea waves, drink refreshing cocktails in bars or eat in small cafes. There are even several hotels.

The beaches of South Goa

  1. Agonda Beach. Among the virgin nature, measuredness, quiet life and peace reign. There is no noisy tourist infrastructure, although there are bars, modest restaurants, Internet cafes and other cultural places. Romantics, youth, lovers like to come here for vacation. Far from the hustle and bustle, you can sunbathe, swim, do water sports sports, meditate.

  1. Benaulim Beach. This is a place with a carefree atmosphere. It is as beautiful here as on most beaches in Goa. On a hill near the nearest village is the church of St. John the Baptist, in whose honor a Thanksgiving feast is held. On this day, there is an opportunity to see the traditional action depicted by local youths. From October to March you can watch bullfights here.

Benaulim
  1. Bogmallo Beach. Its peculiarity is that it is located near the fishing village. It is very beautiful, clean, and there are much fewer vacationers than in Anjuna. Swimming in the sea is safe. There are many restaurants and cafes where you can taste Goan cuisine. You can buy everything from jewelry to clothes in local shops. The peculiarity of this place is the presence of the institute of scuba diving and the "cemetery" of the remains of ships.

Bogmalo
  1. Kanagvinim beach. Little known among tourists, therefore, nature has been preserved here almost in its original form. Lush vegetation, golden sand, clean coastline are the main beauties of Kanagvinim. The area is divided into southern and northern parts. Their territory is small, but this place is very good for savage recreation. If you wish, you can go to the nearest and famous Cabo Da Rama.

  1. Cavelossim Beach. Designed for lovers of leisurely and comfortable, and fans of active pastime. In addition to the beauty that surrounds vacationers here, there are elements of modern infrastructure: an exchange office, travel agencies, shops, cafes and restaurants. Here you can watch dolphins, swim or stroll through the market.

  1. Colva Beach. He became famous thanks to the hippies who found this secluded place in Goa. Colva is happy to shelter both night party-goers and those who like to have a quiet time. Benulim Beach, where seasonal bullfights are held, is located just a short distance away. You can visit the Temple of the Merciful Virgin, where in October, during the annual Fama festival, a miraculous sculpture of a small one (Menino Jesus) is available for viewing.

  1. Majorda Beach. It is located just 18 km from. This is exactly the Goa that every visitor wants to see: velvet sand, clear sea, tropical greenery, lack of crowds of tourists. Everything that a modern vacationer needs is here: cozy restaurants, the opportunity to go in for water sports (speed boat, skiing, etc.), architectural sights (the Church of Our Lady).

  1. Mobor Beach. Natural lily ponds, coconut thickets, sand dunes, silky sand, clear sea - this is a true paradise. No wonder celebrities and influential people often come here and stay in luxurious local hotels. Travel companies take full advantage of the beauty of these places and offer bike rides along the sand dunes.

  1. Palolem Beach. This is the southernmost beach in Goa. Due to the fact that it is located in a cozy bay, very calm turquoise waves wash clean white sand here. Palolem is often preferred by young people and families with children. The presence of several inexpensive hotels makes it possible to book rooms in them even for budget tourists. Those who want to feel closer to nature can rent a comfortable bungalow near the beach. Water sports are available (kayaking, water skiing, snorkeling), sightseeing tours, catering establishments for guests with completely different financial capabilities.

  1. Betul Beach. Suitable for brave, ready to overcome additional distances tourists. And all because Betul is hard to reach and you need to get to it by motor boat. But it's worth it. The local eateries are famous for serving the largest mussels in Goa.

Betul
  1. Galgibaga Beach. Tourists love this place for its untouched natural beauty. There is no infrastructure as such, but it does not matter. Here you can stare at the olive turtles, which prefer to lay their eggs in the sand here.

There are other beaches in South Goa. But there are those that are not very popular with tourists: for example, Velsao Beach (Velsao Beach) - because of the nearby chemical fertilizer plant, which pretty much spoils the beauty of nature.

Beaches located in the center of Goa

We note some more coasts for recreation, which are located in the central part:

  1. Bambolim beach . Here Goa appears in all its glory. An abundance of palm trees, sand shining with gold, gentle waves - this is what tourists are waiting for. Well developed infrastructure. Local restaurants serve delicious fresh seafood dishes. The hotels are ready to offer comfortable rooms with air conditioning. The center is definitely worth a visit.

  1. Dona Paula Beach . This place is called a paradise for lovers and honeymooners. There is even a romantic legend. According to her, Dona Paula de Menezes, the daughter of the governor, could not be with her lover. Unable to bear the separation, the girl threw herself into the sea from the cape. It is believed that after this story, the area was named after her. In addition to natural beauties, Dona Paula is rich in hotels that are ready to shelter visitors in their rooms. It is also worth visiting souvenir shops, boutiques, restaurants and bars, in general, devote time to shopping. There you will definitely find something for yourself or. Do not pass by the Marine Biological Museum, which is located at the National Ocean Institute of India, which will amaze you with the abundance of marine life in the Arabian Sea.

  1. Miramar Beach . You can also hear his another name - Gaspar Diaz. From Portuguese, the name translates as "looking at the sea." The place is popular not only with tourists, but also with locals. The beach managed to combine stunning landscapes, well-developed infrastructure, and attractions.

Sunset on Miramar

There are really many beaches in Goa. Some of them are similar to each other, some are so distinctive that it is impossible to confuse them with anything. But, definitely, you need to visit as many places as possible in the state of Goa, since each of its beaches is a talented work of nature itself.

Goa is a state in India, popular for recreation and wintering among tourists and travelers from the CIS countries. The length of the coastline is about 100 km. The coast is washed by the Arabian Sea.

Throughout this distance along the sea there are resort towns, each of which has its own characteristics.

The beaches of Goa can be divided into three parts: north Goa for backpackers and winterers, north Goa for package tourists and south Goa (clean, civil and calm part of the state).

North Goa for backpackers

The beaches in the north of Goa (Arambol, Mandrem, Morjim) are considered the cheapest, popular among winterers and backpackers. Housing is presented in the form of a bungalow on the beach or simple rooms in guesthouses.

Creative people come here (including hippies, freaks and homeless rastamans), as well as people seeking, raw foodists and drinkers. First of all, for the sake of the atmosphere and parties, and only then for the sake of a beach holiday.

Arambol

65 km from Dabolim Airport.

Arambol is the most popular village in Goa, where mostly Russian-speaking winterers, photographers, dancers, fire-eaters, yogis and other citizens who are not burdened with work go.

Why go to Arambol?

  • To meet the man of your dreams. I know several successful stories when people met in Arambol and have been traveling together ever since.
  • A bunch of like-minded people?! People in Arambol gather different, so everyone will find a suitable company. I found myself three Spaniards on Royal enfieds
  • A wide range of entertainment (from yoga, qigong dancing, painting to smoking mushrooms)
  • Nice wide beaches. There is no shade in Arambol, but you can rent a sun lounger and hide under an umbrella.
  • Cheap housing and entertainment

Cons of Arambol

  • Mud and cow poop. In the south of Goa, this goodness is less.
  • There are many people, including various stoners and quiet alcoholics, who drunkenly drive around the streets in Royal Enfields, not paying attention to pedestrians.

More about Arambol will be discussed in a separate article. Using the link, you can book a decent hotel in Arambol for the first couple of days until you find a more suitable accommodation.

Mandrem

62 km north of Dabolim Airport.

Madrem begins immediately after Arambol. I like the sea on Madrem more. Families with small children and lovers of a more relaxing holiday mainly live here.

Mandrem

Morjim

Russian beach in North Goa. There is a market where you can buy food, souvenirs and clothes. Chapora Fort is also located there. In winter you can go kitesurfing. The wind in Morjim blows from January to February.

North Goa for package travelers (Baga, Calangute, Candolim)

If you buy a package tour to Goa, you will most likely be sent to the north of Goa to the beaches of Baga, Calangute, Candolim. They are distinguished by the highest prices (one and a half times higher than in Arambol) and a large number of tourists who came to break away on a tour for a couple of weeks.

Prices for package tours to India ↓↓

The water in the sea is not the cleanest, the coastline is lined with sunbeds. Most cafes speak Russian. There are discos, bars, restaurants, ATMs, supermarkets.

If you do not like crowded tourist towns, but want to save money, you can buy a ticket to one of the popular resorts, but do not stay in a hotel all the time, but travel to other beaches on a scooter or buses.

Vacation packages to India, which include charter tickets and a modest hotel, are sometimes cheaper than flights to Goa on regular flights, but no one forces you to live in a redeemed hotel all the time.

Baga

Baga is an analogue of the coastal resorts of southern Russia in the Indian version. Hundreds of hotels, thousands of sun loungers, music, cafes, restaurants and people lying on top of each other.

Here you can ride on a banana boat, on a jet ski, fly with a parachute over the sea. This is a resort with ATMs, cafes, entertainment. The “civilian” part of Goa begins with Baga.

Calangute

Calangute is a lively resort with all the consequences. Here you will find water rides, branded clothing stores, supermarkets, fast food establishments, a large number of hotels and shek.

Intrusive Indians walk along the coast with offers to buy a bracelet / pareo / watermelon and other necessary things. Everything is very fussy and obviously an amateur. The contingent is package tourists from Russia and the UK, there are also a lot of locals.

Candolim

Candolim starts right after Calangute. This is the most popular resort for package tourists from Russia and the UK, who come to Goa for 1-2 weeks and stay in 2-3 * hotels, so English and Russian are spoken in cafes and restaurants on the coast.

Prices in establishments are 30-40 percent higher than in Arambol. Near the beach you can visit Fort Aguada, built 100 years ago. Candolim is located 40 km north of Dabolim Airport.

south goa

The beaches of South Goa are all beaches south of Panaji (the state capital). These include Benolim, Carmona, Varca, Fatrade, Agonda, Palolem, etc. For a short-term seaside vacation in India (1-2 weeks), it makes sense to choose the south of the state.

It is cleaner here than in the north of the state, also in the south there are most comfortable hotels with stars and a more or less decent level of service. There you can meet tourists from other countries, because the north of Goa was mainly chosen by travelers from Russia. I personally like the southern beaches more.

Benaulim

In Benaulim, there are a large number of guest houses and inexpensive hotels, but most often they are 100% full. It is popular for recreation among pensioners from Europe, there are also Russian tourists of different ages. There is Internet (mobile Idea, a little worse - Vodafone)

Cooking

Located near the village of the same name Varka. One of the widest and least crowded beaches in South Goa. Smoothly transitions into Fatrade.

Fatrade

Fatrad is one of my favorite beaches in South Goa. There are a few sheks on the coast, but mostly the coast is deserted. The sand is white, the beach is wide, the ocean is clean, sun loungers are installed in some places near the sheks. To lie down, you need to order something in a cafe. There is no natural shade.

The disadvantage of the beaches of Varka and Fatraida for budget travelers is that there are no cheap accommodations. You can rent a house in the village of Varka, but you will have to ride a bike to the sea for 10-15 minutes.

Housing, which is within walking distance from the sea, is mainly condominiums and large expensive apartments, there is no housing on the coast. There are hotels near the sea costing from 1600 rupees (Kolonia jose), there were also hotels for 1500 and 3500 rupees.

Mud is also found in the south of Goa, but it is less than in the north.

Agonda

Agonda is located in the south of Goa, 72 km from Dabolim Airport. Suitable for those who are not looking for parties and entertainment. There are many people there. Mostly those who prefer a quiet relaxing holiday. Along the coast there are many bungalows and shacks. Prices are higher than in neighboring Palolem.

Palolem

The southernmost beach in Goa. In many sources it is listed as heavenly. Of all the variety of resorts in Goa, I liked Palolem the most. I lived there for 8 days in a bungalow three steps from the sea. The bungalow cost 600 rupees per day and was distinguished by the presence of high-speed Internet and a pleasant little terrace.

The contingent on Palolem is European youth (mostly backpackers), there are tourists from Russia, but they are few. Night life is poorly developed, but during the day there are a lot of people on sun loungers, cafes are packed with vacationers. Palolem is crowded, but somehow especially fun. There are almost no hippie freaks.

Despite the many articles describing South Goa, in our opinion, this is the real territory of Terra Incognita. Why do we think so? Yes, because the descriptions of this part of one of the most touristic states in India are for the most part nothing more than a set of stamped phrases that often do not correspond to reality. Well, it’s better not to mention the reliability of the photographs at all.

Personally, we love Goa very much, we visited all its beaches and we are a little jarred when we read “tales” and fables about it. So we decided to try to tell about him as he really is - without all this commercial and tourist husk.

Before starting my story, I would like to deal with the main legends. What is most often written about him in general terms? That's right, write the following:

  • a quiet sparsely populated place where there are no such crowds as in northern Goa
  • beaches with white sand, palm trees and crystal clear water - shorter than the Bounty, and even with umbrellas, sunbeds and beach restaurants
  • very respectable, with many 4 and 5 star hotels, the main contingent of which are adults and the elderly who are not deprived of financial wealth
  • much more expensive here than in the north

Let's try to figure out what is true and what is advertising fiction. So:

  1. Quiet and uncrowded! Here we can agree that there are such places here.

    But it is impossible to bring all the beaches under this denominator. Don't believe? Take for example “deserted and quiet” Palolem at the very end of the season, in May. Do you think there are as many people here in December/January?…

    By the way, Colva, Benaulim and even Cavelossim can also be far from deserted.

    Another thing is that the 25-kilometer sandy coast, which includes 13 conditional beaches, will always allow you to find a quiet corner.

  2. Solid Bunty beach. Well, there is also some truth in this - there are beaches with coconut palms and even in places almost deserted.

    But as for the white sand and crystal waters, sorry - there is no such thing here due to the complete absence of corals. White sand is coral, but in Goa it is ordinary, and even often with admixtures of silt deposits, so there can be no talk of any “white-white beaches”. Light and even very light sand - yes it is found.

    Since the sand is ordinary, not coral, and, as already noted, with silty inclusions, there can be no talk of any super-transparency of water. Taking into account the almost constant presence of waves (the ocean, after all) and the slow increase in depth (with the exception of a few beaches), we can generally say that the water in South Goa, and in North Goa, too, is muddy. Pay attention - not dirty, but muddy - these are two big differences.

    With sunbeds and umbrellas there is a lot of tension, for these "charms" go to the central part of the state.
  3. Lots of expensive hotels and few cheap ones. Well, how about, yes. There are quite a few low-cost and mid-price housing here, the choice for a budget traveler is quite large, while the quality / price ratio is better. But what is there to say a lot, here for clarity, Goa hotels on the map - look and compare. For more clarity, play with the "price range" slider located in the lower right corner of the map. We think you can easily see that in the northern and central parts of the state, there are more expensive hotels.
  4. Food and rest in general are more expensive than in other parts of Goa. Let's say briefly - such a statement is complete bullshit. It's the same as everywhere else, different prices. It is required more expensive - please, if you want it cheaper - there are no problems, but if you want it for a penny at all - this is also not a question. Yes, in the same Benaulim, you can easily eat well for 40-60 rupees, you just need not be too lazy and go to the central intersection area, where there are local catering points. Fruits, clothes and souvenirs - here, as elsewhere in Asia, everything depends not only on your ability to bargain, but also on your ability to get along with the local population.

Information about South Goa

Now, perhaps, you can start the story about South Goa, give basic practical information about it, which can be useful to you both at the planning stage and during the trip and rest itself.

Where is

Surprisingly, everyone has heard of Goa, but at the same time, many do not really know where it is located and consider it an island. For this reason, just in case, let's clarify that it is located on west coast peninsula of Hindustan and is one of the 29 Indian states of India.

The concepts of Southern, Central and Northern are conditional.

How to get there

There are three main ways to get to Goa:

For purchase cheap flights There are many different sites and aggregators. Which one is the best, everyone decides for himself, but personally we use Aviasales and this is such a visual, easy-to-search calendar of cheap flights.

Weather in Goa. When to go

Here we will briefly talk about when you should definitely not go if your goal is a beach holiday - from mid-May to the end of September. During this period, the rainy season is here, and this is the season of real tropical rains.

Money - which is better to take cash or a card

If you want more problems, or if everything is expensive, take a card. It is necessary that there is no unnecessary "hemorrhoids" - come with cash, preferably dollars with banknotes of 50 and 100.

Hotels and guesthouses

As already mentioned, there are many hotels and guest houses, for different tastes and budgets, from rooms for 200-300 rubles per day, to luxurious rooms in 5-star hotels. For those who do not suffer from the presence of excessive banknotes in their wallet, but do not save too much, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with our recommendations - Good and inexpensive accommodation in Goa, based on the results of the last trip. Here, for example, is our house in Benaulim, 50 meters from the shore, in a resort Pele's Windsong Wood Cottage.

We also present a small selection of popular hotels, mainly in the middle price category, with a rating of at least 7.5

South Goa beaches

The beaches here are very good and differ in natural diversity. The area from Velsao to Cavelosim is essentially one huge, many kilometers long beach. Its main advantage is not beauty, but the huge length of a good sandy coast with a smooth entry into the sea.

This entire area is touristic, there are hotels everywhere, both inexpensive and, to put it mildly, not budget. In general, it is more expensive here, because. developed package tourism with all the ensuing "charms" of civilization. It is likely that those who talk about the high cost of this part of Goa, rested here and do not know anything about the rest.

And further south, the beaches differ both in appearance and in the cost of recreation. Here they are not extended, but at the same time more beautiful, there is even almost a "Bounty". Some are almost wild and deserted, others the opposite.

Housing here is much cheaper, of course there are expensive options, but the middle price category prevails and there are a lot of budget ones, and even on the seashore.

However, if anyone needs a little more detail about each beach, then read our post about them - All the beaches of Goa.

Well, for us personally, in all of Goa we like Agonda the most, even though its beach cannot be called the most beautiful.

All beaches of Goa on the map

The map is interactive, feel free to click on the points you are interested in. Beaches by area are highlighted in color:

  • orange - northern beaches
  • pink - central
  • purple - southern
  • green - the beaches of the neighboring state of Maharashtra

Attractions

But this Indian state, unlike others, is not rich in sights and almost does not feel the Indian flavor, I think that it is affected by the fact that it was under the rule of Portugal for a very long time (until 1961) and strongly, how to put it in more decently - "Europeanized". By the way, a very interesting fact - the Wiki says that in the 61st year of the last century, India occupied Goa. Like this.

However, returning to the sights - from real India there are only a few ("enlightened benefactors" tried to get rid of them) Hindu temples.

You will often read that there are forts, Catholic cathedrals, some Portuguese architecture, and all this is interesting, picturesque and definitely worth a visit. In our opinion, these are very doubtful statements. Although, everyone has different tastes.

Our Goa Tourist Map

On this map, we tried to collect all the sights of Goa known to us. The map is interactive, click here.

Rent a bike and a motorcycle

As part of this story, we will not dwell on this issue, we only note that the rental of this equipment is well developed, renting a bike is not difficult. Prices and conditions are different and a lot here depends not only on the landlord, but also on you. For example, we managed to get a motorcycle in the photo below in Benaulim at a cost of 300 rupees per day. Well, if anyone is interested in the details, then read - Rent a motorcycle in Goa.

Our general reviews of South Goa

For our taste, relaxing in southern Goa is much better than northern Goa, we won’t even compare it with the central one. The beaches here are more diverse, more beautiful and better. It's much cleaner and quieter here. The local population is less spoiled by tourism, more friendly and sincere. The choice of housing is richer and more interesting. Prices for food and things are normal, but if you still know how to bargain, and you have your own transport, then accommodation and recreation can generally turn out to be budgetary and without sacrificing quality. If you are interested in a calm, measured rest from the hustle and bustle - choose this area, but choose the right one, the places and beaches here are completely different.

Have a nice holiday!

Goa beaches: so different and beautiful

It is difficult to find a person who has not heard about Goa. Or not seen - photos of Goa beaches - popular desktop wallpaper. This beautiful part of India has long been associated with great holidays. However, not everyone knows that this state is conditionally divided into two parts: North and South Goa.

Even the most successful photos of the beaches of South Goa do not convey their true beauty.

Popular beaches of South Goa

North Goa is home to hippies, expats, long-steers and travelers. It is replete with guesthouses, inexpensive bungalows, apartments and rooms for rent. we also studied. South Goa is considered a more "elite" place. It is ideal for people who come for a short stay and want to relax to the maximum. Therefore, the choice of hotels here is much larger, and there are fewer crazy youth parties and festivals. The emphasis is shifted from entertainment to recreation.

Stunning sunsets are another pleasure that these places give.

Prices for accommodation and food in a cafe are slightly higher than in North Goa, but if you wish, you can spend quite a bit of money, while getting great pleasure from your vacation.

High ratings and positive reviews from the beaches of southern Goa are well deserved

Majorda Beach - not a quiet but active holiday

Leading in the ranking of "The Best Beaches of South Goa" - Majorda - one of the largest beaches in the state of Goa in India. Its length is more than 30 kilometers. Densely located cafes, restaurants, sun loungers and bungalows. Majorda beach was chosen by foreigners. So the rest here can hardly be called secluded and quiet.

Noisy on the beach in the evenings. Where exactly are discotheques worth asking in advance

For those who are used to making new acquaintances and spending the day in outdoor activities, we recommend Majorda with its purest sand and picturesque green coastline. If you intend to explore the best beaches of South Goa, then the photos from Majorda Beach will be the most colorful.

Majorda is picturesque bays and lagoons, clear warm sea and exotic villages

Colva - the beach that never sleeps

This South Goa beach lives day and night. During the day, the space is run by fishermen and Indian tourists, and by night the cafes turn into dance floors with a wide range of music, from pop to rock style. Other beaches of South Goa cannot boast of such a rhythm of life.

This center of tourist life in India has all the conditions for a pleasant stay.

Colva beach is beautiful because on the second line there are Portuguese bungalows in palm trees, which creates a unique atmosphere of a resort, holiday, lightness.

The absence of waves, fine sand and a wide beach attract a large number of tourists to Colva

Goa's most heavenly beach - Palolem

Palolem - the beach of South Goa, small in length, has the shape of a crescent. Coastline, unlike most Goa beaches, is not wide. Therefore, palm trees almost hang over the sea water. A lot of fishing boats will allow you to have a colorful photo shoot, and the green hills that surround Palolem Beach cannot but please the eye.

For a small fee on Palolem you can ride a boat and take a photo of dolphins

On this Goa beach, you can rent a bungalow almost at the water's edge. And if you have ever dreamed of waking up to the sound of the sea and, going out onto the balcony, to see it almost at arm's length - you are in Palolem.

Palolem is one of the few beaches in South Goa where you can live almost on the shore

South Goa Russian Beach - Varca

By right, Varca got into the list of the best beaches in South Goa. It can be described by the word "calm". There are no annoying sellers, no music plays after sunset, the sea is calm and warm.

If you wish, you can find a secluded place here.

Varka can be called a Russian beach in Goa. Although, of course, there are enough foreign tourists here. If you are tired of noisy cities and want to spend a romantic vacation, this beach will suit you perfectly.

Tourists from Russia appreciate Varka beach for cleanliness, comfort and a relaxing holiday.

The Quiet Joys of Benaulim Beach

Even just looking at the photos of the beaches of Goa, one cannot but pay attention to this beautiful coastal area. Benaulim is a small village and, accordingly, a small but cozy beach on the Arabian Sea. There are no big supermarkets, high-end restaurants and expensive entertainment here. In Benaulim, you learn to enjoy the little things in life: delicious Indian tea, sociable dogs, sunrise and sunset, smiles of passers-by.

Café Benaulim serves fresh seafood dishes

This beach of South Goa is not considered Russian, so those who are tired of their native culture and want to practice their own will like it here.

On this beach, unlike Varka, you will hardly meet compatriots

Cola Beach won't stay wild for long

This is probably the most wild beach South Goa. Cola is minimally touched by civilization. It is not easy to find, so if you are riding a bike, be sure to make sure the navigator is working. If you look at the photos of the beaches of Goa, you can notice the unusual color of the sand of Cola Beach - it ranges from dark yellow to reddish. What is not typical for the coastline of South Goa is that on other beaches the sand is always light, almost white.

Cola is the most deserted and, probably, therefore, the most clean beach South Goa

It is quiet here, but still every year more and more people learn about this paradise. Therefore, to find the most pleasant place, it is better to come to Cola Beach in the morning. The current is active here, you need to be careful. Those who are afraid of the sea can swim in fresh lake located right on the beach.

It's nice to swim after the Indian Ocean in the fresh water of Cola Beach

Cavelossim beach is famous for dolphins and entertainment

Cavelossim is one of the most prestigious beaches in South Goa. Luxury hotels are located here, so wealthy foreigners rest on the beach. There are few Indians and our compatriots here. Therefore, the beach cannot be called Russian.

Developed infrastructure and calm atmosphere - the advantages of Cavelossim beach

Wide and exceptionally clean beach suitable for family vacation with small children. Sometimes dolphins come to this beach of South Goa. But even if they are not there, there is entertainment for the whole day: water skiing, windsurfing, beach sports, boat trips. ABOUT in large numbers entertainment is evidenced by both reviews of tourists and photos. Goa Cavelossim beach is also considered the safest - a special service monitors the order.

At low tide, you can find mussels, clams and starfish on the sand of Cavelossim

A place for a relaxing holiday - Agonda beach

Agonda Beach is considered one of the best beaches in South Goa and the whole state as a whole. Smooth entry into the water, clean sand, palm trees and large boulders, the absence of entertainment venues will help not only to have a good rest, but also to gain strength for the whole year ahead.

Agonda beach - the coziest corner of the coast of South Goa

Agonda is a small village where you can rent a bike and a good room for reasonable money, and self-development, sunbathe and swim, eat fruit and enjoy life.

There are almost no active entertainment inherent in developed tourist centers.

Goa beaches: so different, but always beautiful

Of course, you can look at photos of Goa beaches for a long time and, in the end, not find differences between them. However, the atmosphere on each of them varies significantly. Therefore, upon arrival in Goa, we recommend visiting at least a few beaches in its southern part in order to choose the one that suits you best.

The beaches of South Goa are a great place for yoga

The beaches of South Goa are considered the most beautiful and cleanest in the entire state, right there (in the south of the resort state) most of the expensive hotels with the All Inclusive system are concentrated.

In turn, the southern can be divided into those located in the area locality Colva, they are closest to Dabolim International Airport, there are many comfortable hotels here, for every taste and income.

And in the very south of Goa there are several picturesque beaches, all of them are located in close proximity to Palolem.

All beaches of South Goa on the map

In this part of the post, I indicated almost all South Goan beaches. A space separated those that are at a decent distance from each other and it is difficult to reach them on foot (along the coast).

Near Colva:

  • Velsao;
  • Cansaulim;
  • Arossim;
  • Utorda;
  • Majorda;
  • Betalbatim;
  • Colva;
  • Benaulim;
  • Cooking;
  • Cavelossim;
  • Mobor.
  • Betul;
  • Canaguinim;
  • Cabo;
  • Kakolem;
  • Cola.

Near Palolem:

  • Agonda;
  • Butterfly;
  • Palolem;
  • Colomb;
  • Putnam;
  • Rajbag.
  • Talpona;
  • Galdzhibag;
  • field.

On this map you can see all the beaches near Colva. As I said earlier, most of them can be walked along the coast, but the walk will be very long.

Velsao beach

Velsao is the northernmost beach, i.e. if you go ashore in Colva and walk along the sea all the way, then you will run into Velsao.

The beach looks unsightly, probably because of its remoteness, or maybe because of the pipes of the nearby chemical production. According to the Internet, chemical pipes are visible from here. fertilizer plant Zuari Agro Chemicals Limited.

For many, it will be surprising to know that Goa is full of harmful industries. For example, in Pond (this is also in the south) there is a huge industrial zone where tires, products, and other things important for the country are made. So it’s worth getting used to the neighborhood with harmful industries, they also exist in India.

Of the decent hotels, the Resort Palmeiras Dourado should be noted, it is very pleasant and calm in it. To the sea 3 minutes, to the nearest beach cafe 10 minutes, the hotel is clean and tidy, everything is personally looked after by the owner, who is always on site.

The hotel has practically no competitors, this beach is not very popular with tourists, so you will swim in the sea in splendid isolation.

Velsao beach has a few shek, they have minimal infrastructure. The complete absence of people is good on the one hand, but not very good on the other hand, so I highly recommend not to dine in such establishments (the products may not be fresh).

Velsao beach is suitable for a relaxing holiday away from the tourist bustle, which has not yet reached this corner.

Cansaulim beach

Immediately behind Velsao is Cansaulim, the beach is clean, just as deserted, it is quite suitable for relaxing and swimming in the sea. Once a year on Christmas Eve, Cansaulim holds the Feast of the Three Kings, sometimes called the Feast of the Magi.

The holiday is Catholic and is held throughout Goa (I already wrote about this in the post “Church of the Three Magi in Goa”). The essence of the action is as follows: children dressed as wise men must take gifts to the church on the hill and lay them at the statue of Jesus.

One of the best hotels on Cansaulim Beach is the Heritage Village Resort. The declared 4 stars are fully consistent, the service is at its best, the price is suitable for most tourists.

To the sea 3 minutes, the beach is deserted, the cluster of cafes should be looked for on the neighboring beach. The hotel has everything you need, the food is great, especially the fish dishes. I recommend booking a full boarding house, you will definitely not regret it. The contingent is calm, mostly pensioners and older people, there are practically no noisy youth.

Cansaulim Beach is ideal for a relaxing, family vacation.

Arossim beach

Arossim is small, but very beautiful and photogenic. The beach is cool, without any entertainment and tourist infrastructure, I recommend it.

As on previous beaches, Arossim is deserted, there are no shacks or other entertainment here, the closest entertainment can be found in the nearby Grand Goa Resort and Spa (5 stars). The hotel belongs to the luxury segment, so for most tourists the price for accommodation will not be affordable, but in terms of the quality of services, the size of the hotel territory and location, the hotel is unrivaled.

Rest on Arossim beach is suitable for people with wealth and accustomed to high service. The coast in this place is deserted, probably due to the lack of cheap housing, for the guests of expensive hotels this is a clear plus, although in their hotels the territory resembles the gardens of Eden, which there is no desire to leave.

Utorda beach

Gradually, hotels and sheki appear. The coastal strip in this place is very picturesque, and palm groves are conducive to hiking. Most of the hotels near Utorda are suitable for a very cheap holiday, although for their guests the price does not matter. Clean, expensive, quiet, but boring.

The beach is very popular with tourists with high incomes, during the New Year holidays, all rooms in five-star hotels are sold out. If you want to book a decent room on New Year, then you should do it in advance.

Utorda has several high-class five-star resorts, this one is one of the best (better book in advance, rooms are in short supply). There is no point in talking specifically about this hotel, if you have money, then it will satisfy you 100%, if there is no money, then look at the accommodation on the nearby beach.

Utorda Beach is ideal for a relaxing beach holiday, especially if you are not used to saving on vacation.

Majorda beach

There are much more people on the Majorda beach, hotels are a little cheaper and there are also enough sheks. Despite the outward signs of civilization, Majorda is perfect for quiet idleness, there is no fuss, here you can enjoy the sea, silence and tranquility.

There are many hotels and guesthouses near the beach, but it is difficult to choose a really good one, some are located too far from the sea, others are overpriced and have bad reviews. If the factor of proximity to the sea is important, then pay attention to this option, the price is reasonable, 5 minutes to the sea, and most importantly, there are many positive reviews.

Holidays on Majorda Beach are more affordable, but in the high season it can be very crowded. If you are looking for luxury hotels, then choose neighboring beaches, they are there.

Betalbatim beach

Betalbatim is quiet and calm, the presence of the crowded village of Kolva in the neighborhood does not affect the atmosphere of tranquility in Betalbatim. The sea on this beach is very pleasant, the sand gently burns under your feet, but there is also a shadow from the pine trees growing on the shore.

The choice of hotels on Betalbatim is very poor, and the beach itself is not very long, so when planning a vacation, you should carefully choose accommodation.

Pay attention to this map, it shows that the most popular beaches are concentrated in the neighborhood of Palolem, many can be reached on foot.

Agonda beach

Three kilometers of sand and warm sea This is Agonda. There are few people on Agonda beach, the abundance of sheks and other tourist joys makes you feel very comfortable.

The beach is very democratic both in terms of prices and choice of housing, there are standard guesthouses, and bungalows that are more popular in these places. There are a lot of accommodation options, there are very cheap options with a minimum of amenities, there are very decent huts at a slightly overpriced price.

If you want to live in the style of "Robinson Crusoe", then this bungalow would be the best option (an option for wealthy tourists). You will have all the usual amenities (air conditioning, modern plumbing, etc.), while your house will be located right on the beach (required when booking Front Sea View Hut), and you will take an open-air shower (this is really cool).

Rest on Agonda beach is suitable for everyone, everyone here will find a piece of his Goa. Due to good transport accessibility (buses run to Palolem), an abundance of housing (there is for every taste and budget), a more relaxing holiday (not all tourists get here), Agonda is a direct competitor to Palolem beach.

Butterfly beach

The easiest way to get to Butterfly is by water, the beach is small and tourists do not stay on it for a long time, although it looks very beautiful. There is no housing, as well as other tourist joys on the beach.

Palolem beach

Palolem Beach has the shape of a perfect crescent, there are few or no waves in this natural bay. It is for this feature that tourists with small children adore it. Group excursions are carried to Palolem, it is worth paying tribute that the beach deserves it.

In the recent past, in these places they did not think about the tourist boom, but the only thing they did was locals- fishing. Palolem reminds me a lot of Arambol, there is the same relaxed atmosphere, elderly hippie hangouts and palm groves.

There are plenty of guesthouses, bungalows and small hotels on Palolem, there are no problems with settling in, but I still recommend booking accommodation in advance. Especially during New Year holidays, since at this time good options can quickly run out.

Where to live in Palolem, and how much it costs, read the link.

Holidays on Palolem are not suitable for everyone, because there are no luxury hotels here, and expensive restaurants too. Choose this beach if you are ready to live in very simple conditions, eat ordinary food, and be prepared for crowds of tourists on the beach.

Colomb beach

Colomb Beach is very similar to the island of Robinson Crusoe, only instead of Friday there are crowds of tourists. This is a very small beach between two rocks, on which tiny bungalows huddle.

As I said earlier, the beach is tiny, there are no large hotels here, but there are modest bungalows for reasonable money. Pay attention to this option, the bungalows are located on a hill, all the surroundings are in full view. Be sure to read the reviews of tourists, for the most part they are positive.

Holidays on Colomb Beach will suit hardened romantics who are ready to put up with everyday inconveniences, just to fall asleep and wake up to the sound of the surf. Housing here is very simple, in fact, it is simply impossible to build another here.

Patnem beach

Putnam is a more relaxed counterpart to Palolem, not as beautiful, not as popular, but very calm. Sheki, bungalows for rent and other benefits of civilization are present here in abundance.

The beach is located at a decent distance from Palolem, so that one-day tourists do not get here, and therefore do not disturb the peace of vacationers. The main type of accommodation is a bungalow. The bungalow here is for a different look and wallet, from very simple ones assembled from banana leaves to quite civilized options.

Pay attention to these cozy bungalows, they are located right on the beach, but hidden from the sun in a coconut grove. The only problem is beware of falling nuts.

Rajbag beach

Rajbag is perfect for wealthy tourists. One of the most expensive hotels in South Goa, The LaLiT Golf, is located on its shore. There are dangerous currents in the sea, so be careful.

The place is very calm and secluded, there is one shek on the beach, which belongs to an expensive hotel. Prices in the beach cafe are appropriate, but for the local public they do not seem high.

The beach is not intended for budget holiday, but great for wealthy tourists. One of the features of this beach is its isolation, from the side of Palolem it is too far to go, and on the other side the river flows.

Just south of Rajbag there are several sparsely populated beaches, which are not so easy to get to, and the lack of infrastructure makes the rest on them very specific. Here are the most southern beaches Goa: Talpona, Galdzhibaga, Polem.

Have a good rest and warm water in the Arabian Sea.
