Big Kastel is a protected area protected by the state. This is a special natural place, where there are small areas overgrown with ancient shrubs and steppe expanses, through which winds walk and feather grass rustles. In addition, here you can see the foundation of an ancient manor discovered by archaeologists. Therefore, a visit to the Great Castel will appeal to both nature lovers and fans of antiquities.

What is the peculiarity of the Big Kastel reserve?

The Bolshoy Kastel beam is known for its unique nature: both flora and fauna. Relic groves of shrubs have been preserved here, which make up a special ecosystem of this place. Thanks to such unusual vegetation, the Big Castel looks especially attractive: it seems to tourists that they find themselves in another world. There are endless expanses of steppes, white limestone cliffs above the sea and the same snow-white beach. Looking at such a landscape, one might think that this is not the Crimean coast, but the shores of the Greek islands.

Big Kastel is unique for its fauna. Here you can see wild rabbits, the colony of which is strictly protected by the state. The appearance of these animals here is also unusual, and it is especially pleasant to see such animals running by. Very significant are the ruins of an ancient building found in this place. Once upon a time, there was an ancient Greek manor on the Big Kastel, which means that such an area has fascinated people with its beauty many centuries ago.

What is useful to know before the trip?

In the Bolshoi Kastel tract, it is especially good to relax with tents. You can stay here for the night, but it is worth remembering that in such a steppe nature you can’t find firewood for a fire, and kindling a fire in a protected area can lead to trouble. It is important to know in advance that there is no mobile connection in the bay itself, and in order to make a call, you will have to climb to the top of the hill. And 3G Internet is generally bad in the entire district.

A trip to the Bolshoy Kastel can be diversified by visiting other attractions, for example, the Dzhangul nature reserve or the ancient ancient village of Panskoe with the temple of Hercules. You can dine in numerous cafes in the village of Chernomorskoe, which offer national Crimean Tatar dishes. In the same village you can rent various vehicles and rent a house. You can stay in hotels and sanatoriums not only in Chernomorskoe, but also in other nearby villages: Mezhvodnoe and Olenevka. In these places you can find quite cheap private housing.

Do not forget about souvenirs. Good gifts will be products bought at local markets, for example, the famous red sweet Yalta onion or Crimean wines. A trip to the Bolshoy Kastel tract will be even more successful if it coincides with local festive events:

    festivities to celebrate the start holiday season in the boarding house "Solnechnaya Dolina" (Olenevka village) from April 29 to May 3, 2017;

show performances in the Atlesh Dolphinarium.

How to get to the Bolshoy Kastel tract?

You can get to the Bolshoy Kastel tract on your own or as part of an excursion, the cost of which will depend on the place of departure. To plan independent trip better for those who have a car, because it is much more convenient to bring all the necessary travel accessories with you. Bolshoy Kastel is located in the urban-type settlement of Chernomorskoe on Cape Tarkhankut in the northeast of the Dzhangul nature reserve.

After a series of bays, wanderings and wanderings, they flew into a huge and beautiful bay - Big Castel.

Here on the shore there are plenty of places for tents and there are also a lot of tents, respectively. On a small hill there are the ruins of some ancient manor, which seems to be 2000 years old.

And now, on the stones left from her, the works of the unknown Danila the master gape.

Somewhere else on the shore there should be a well left from the estate, but we didn’t see it and didn’t look for it, we wouldn’t drink from it anyway, but stopped a little further.

A well-trodden rocky primer directly from the bay leads to the bay. This road begins at the exit from to the side. From the asphalt road in front of a lonely cottage to the left of the road, surrounded by a large fence, a primer goes to the left, climbs a hill, then along a flat parallel road, then a descent - 2 km into the bay itself. There are, of course, many branches there, but this one is especially well-trodden by cars, rocky, it is easy to distinguish it.

In the Big Castle you want to stand at least a day. There is where to swim, where to dive with a mask, where to jump from the rocks. In general, on the western side, as we understood, this is a favorite place for many tourists.

Although in front of it, from the side of the Black Sea, there is also a wonderful little little-known bay with space for just a couple of tents near the sea, the rest can only be set up on a nearby hill. We also spent one night there.

For water - food, we traveled 19 km if we went along the bays, they wanted to shorten it back, but they didn’t know the road I described above then, so, as usual, we wound up about the same amount.

Reserves are created not only to preserve natural or cultural values. Their equally important task is to make sure that interested people can get to know them better. The reserved beam Bolshoy Kastel in the Crimea, on Tarkhankut, is a protected area and at the same time a favorite vacation spot for many campers.

Where is the Big Castel bay on the map?

It is part of the Tarkhankut National natural park, found on West Coast Crimea, between the villages of Olenevka and Chernomorskoe. The second name of the bay is Dzhangulskaya, since it is not difficult to find the tract of the same name with a landslide coast very close.

History and origins: a piece of Greece

The Tarkhankut peninsula, of which the beam is a part of the system, is unique in itself natural object. The perimeter of the Big Castel makes you think not about the Crimea, but about the southern Greek islands. Environment here it is unusual, as a result, in 1980 the object was taken under protection as a natural monument.

Bolshoy Kastel is a complex of the sea bay Dzhangulskaya and the slopes of the beam descending to it. A significant part of it is steppe, but relic shrub vegetation has been preserved on a hill, which is not found anywhere else in the Crimea. There is also a natural colony of wild rabbits here - also an unusual phenomenon for Taurida.

The sea, as elsewhere on Tarkhankut, is clean here. There are many limestone rocks near the coast; the sand is also largely composed of crushed limestone, giving it a white undertone. These features make the unique similar to Greece.

The length of the beam is about 3 km. Its depth is 30 m, the slopes are moderately steep. As you can see in the photo, Bolshoi Kastel Bay has an almost regular semicircular shape and is reliably protected by capes. Therefore, there is almost no strong excitement in it, and the water retains transparency and a bright, almost blue color.

Colonizers with good taste

Archaeologists today have proven that the Greeks also thought so. Excavations in 1986 made it possible to discover here the remains of a manor from the period of the ancient Greek colonization of Crimea.

Such estates, quite well fortified (“castel” and means “fortress”, “castle”), in the ancient period were the dwellings of wealthy landowners. It seems that the wealthy Greek colonialist tried to find a place on the Crimean coast that was as similar as possible to his homeland.

Scientists believe that other Greeks also lived here, engaged in fishing and trade. The task is also to prevent damage to possible archaeological finds, to let them wait for their researchers.

Rest in the bay Dzhangulskaya

On the territory of the beams are held, allowing you to explore its nature and archaeological sites. In addition to the Greek villa, interesting rock paintings were discovered here. Tourists regularly increase their number, trying themselves as stone cutters. But the results of their work mainly adorn the stones near the coast.

Rabbits in the beam can be seen everywhere - because of their presence, the stay takes on a special flavor. In the upper reaches, in the steppe areas, paddocks are equipped,
where saigas and wild asses live in semi-free conditions, work is underway to restore the population of these rare animals.

They love to come here. The water in the bay is very clear. And in the coastal rocks there are many picturesque caves and grottoes. Cleanliness allows you to shoot underwater. Reviews of experienced divers about the local dives are invariably enthusiastic.

There is a technical detail that tourists traveling to the Great Castel, as well as their friends and relatives, need to know about. Mobile communication practically does not work in the bay, there is nothing to count on constant telephone conversations (and even more so on mobile Internet).

If there is a need for an urgent call, you will have to climb higher. As for modern mobile technologies, they do not work brilliantly in the entire Black Sea region, to which this tract belongs.

How to get (get) from Olenevka?

It is clear that buses do not go here - you only need a personal or rented car. By car, it’s easy to get to the beam on your own like this:

2015

Bay "Big Kapsel" - an unexpected beach among the Dzhangulsky rocks. This is a conservation area, but everything is free and equipped there - what could be better than cleanliness and civilization next to such natural beauty!

Have you ever seen white rocks on the beach? There are many wonderful things in the world, but every surprise is a pleasant surprise. Why not? White rocks from ancient limestone molluscs, white chalk. And how nice it is to swim there at sunset! Having bypassed the coastal moss over the pebbles, sail towards the sun, inhaling the salty evening coolness with full breasts ... The best moments of life!

There are designated camping sites and the toilets are surprisingly clean. It's so great for us and terribly unusual - not a shitty beach. And there are trash bins.

Especially tourists are pleased with the tables, eating on all fours is very romantic, but still we are used to benches, and sitting at such a table on the seashore with a watermelon and a melon is just wonderful! Against the background, the predecessors are asked to protect the bay.

They look brand new, who knows how long they'll last? And will there be others to replace them? Within the framework of the country, this is such a trifle, but how it motivates you to protect nature and keep it clean.

Two little orange houses, sleepy faces, and a line of clothes to dry - one of the most memorable mornings of 2015. Although, in the Crimea, all the mornings are fabulous, if you get up at dawn.

Bay (beam) Bolshoy Kastel near Dzhangul on the interactive panorama

The image on the panorama can be moved with the mouse cursor, as well as zoomed in and out (with the wheel).

And it happens differently - a small forest near the beach, fenced with colorful ribbons, so that none of the outsiders enter the local toilet. And here you can walk at night and not be afraid to get dirty! And trash cans, yes, everyone here is in cars, but sometimes it’s so difficult for us to take our garbage with us.

Well, you won’t see the sea from the tent, but culturally, like everyone else! Just like in the picture. You can even light fires!

It would not hurt. She's so small and defenseless...

2013

There are no gazebos, garbage cans and toilets yet, but everything is just as cute

Ten meters away there is a well, it seems, what kind of water can there be? However, it is slightly salty in taste, but it is quite pleasant to drink it, and even more so to cook. Miracles! A little further - car camping, in the summer season in the Crimea there is always life.

In fact, a local attraction, but we did not dare to try clear water that year. The bucket is still whole, in two years it will be sadder.

"And they will find themselves on the shore, in scales, like the heat of grief, thirty-three heroes" in jeeps. Do not park - exit. From the sea

Rub off your dirt with sand, here is a reserve! There were not enough potato peels in the water.

And here is the housing, around which civilization is neatly laid out. Don't come! During the summer months this place is very popular. Whether it's in September...

A bit of history

Very close, on the western spur of the Big Kastel, there are the ruins of an ancient Greek estate, where you can find several interesting rock paintings.
