S7 Group expects to be the first in Russia to completely renew its fleet of medium-haul aircraft and switch to Airbus and Boeing aircraft newest generation. The country's largest private air group plans to retire the A320ceo and Boeing 737NG from its fleet and start flying only the A320neo and Boeing 737MAX by 2024, Vedomosti reports, citing S7 Group Deputy CEO Grigory Davydov.

Today, the fleet of the S7 Group, which includes S7 Airlines (Siberia; flies on the Airbus A320 and regional Embraer 170 family aircraft) and Globus (operates the Boeing 737NG), has 91 aircraft, including 74 mainline Airbus and Boeing. Of these, 10 narrow-body aircraft are of the new generation: eight A320neo, as well as one A321neo and one each. Until the end of 2020, S7 will accept 32 more aircraft under operating lease: 19 A320neo, 3 A321neo, .

The Group is the first Russian recipient of A320neo and Boeing 737MAX aircraft. At the same time, it is noted that S7 has changed its approach to contracting aircraft and now leases them for two years (apparently, we are talking about leasing contracts with the possibility of extension). Among the benefits that such a position provides is protection from an excess fleet when the market falls, as well as the possibility of obtaining aircraft in improved modifications. In particular, Airbus recently certified a version of the A321LR (long range), designed to carry up to 240 passengers. against 230 in the basic configuration. A further increase in capacity was also not ruled out.

Taking into account the withdrawal of part of the Airbus and Boeing aircraft of the current generation and the receipt of the latest remotorized aircraft, the S7 fleet will increase to 103 aircraft by the end of 2019 (however, this figure may be adjusted depending on market conditions). The high cost of leasing payments for new aircraft will be compensated by the fuel efficiency of the machines (the cost of jet fuel today already accounts for all the costs of airlines).

Thanks to the use of new generation aircraft, less time will be spent on maintenance of aircraft (by the way, the provider S7 Technics, which is part of the group, has a permit to service remotorized narrow-body aircraft and Airbus), which, accordingly, will become one of the factors for increasing flight hours. Thus, it is planned to operate the Boeing 737MAX with a record intensity of 16 hours 40 minutes per day compared to 14 hours 10 minutes per day on the Boeing 737NG. For comparison: last year, the Russian low-cost carrier Pobeda was the world leader in Boeing 737NG flights, flying on each aircraft of this type for 15-16 hours a day.

Previously, the potential possibility of a complete transition to the latest generation of narrow-body aircraft was announced in " Ural Airlines". This airline announced plans to replenish the fleet with aircraft of the family

Engineer Sikorsky Igor Ivanovich (1889-1972)

created the first amphibious helicopter in the United States

Sikorsky Igor Ivanovich, Russian and American aircraft designer, was born in Ukraine. He graduated from the Naval Cadet Corps in St. Petersburg.

In 1914, the St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute gave him an engineering diploma for the creation of multi-engine aircraft.

Sikorsky created BiS-1, BiS-2 biplanes, S-5, S-6 aircraft. On the biplane BiS-2, the designer set 4 records, made demonstration flights. On the C-6 aircraft, he set a world flight speed record with two passengers.

The designer was awarded the honorary medal of the Imperial Russian Technical Society. A modification of the C-6A aircraft was exhibited at the Moscow Aeronautical Exhibition in 1912. Sikorsky I.I. was awarded the Grand Gold Medal. His name was widely known in Russia.

Since 1912, Sikorsky I.I. - chief designer of an aircraft factory.

S-6B, S-7 were built at the plant. The C-7 was the first aircraft of domestic design to be sold abroad. Based on the C-10, the C-15 seaplane was developed.

At the age of 25, the designer became the national pride of Russia. In St. Petersburg, the opera "Pilot Sikorsky" was even dedicated to him.

The aviator managed to set a number of world and domestic records in speed, range and payload on aircraft of his own design: the Grand biplane, Ilya Muromets (16 passengers), Russian Knight (7 passengers).

In 1914 Sikorsky I.I. created the first domestic attack aircraft S-19. The last aircraft built by the designer in Russia was the S-20 single-seat fighter, which surpassed similar foreign models in terms of its characteristics.

In total, in Russia from 1909 to 1917, he created 251 types of aircraft and two types of helicopters.

In 1918 Sikorsky I.I. went to France, where he was offered to continue design activities.

In 1919 he emigrated to the United States, where he became a major aircraft designer and industrialist. Together with a group of Russian emigrants, he managed to organize the Sikorsky aircraft manufacturing company. Air Engineering.

Sikorsky created a 10-seat twin-engine amphibian S-38. His amphibians have become used in all parts of the globe. There were legends about their reliability and safety. In 1937, the first passenger service across the Atlantic began on the S-42.

The S-47 double helicopter was created in December 1941. It became the world's first helicopter launched into large-scale production. It was the only helicopter of the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition that took part in the Second World War.

The S-47 helicopter was followed by new models of the Sikorsky I.I. His company exists to this day and is a leading manufacturer of helicopter equipment.

Aircraft cabin layout

The cabin of the Airbus A319 provides accommodation for 144 economy class passengers in 24 rows.

The best seats are located in the first and 11th rows. The tenth row is not the most comfortable due to the proximity of emergency exits and the inability to recline the backs of the seats, the 24th due to the proximity of the toilets. With children it is better to sit in the front row.

The cabin of the Airbus A320 provides accommodation for eight business class passengers in two rows and 150 economy class passengers in 25 rows.

The best seats are business class. In economy class, the most comfortable seats on the plane are the third and 11th rows. The ninth and tenth rows are not the most convenient due to the proximity of emergency exits, the 27th due to the proximity of the toilets. With children it is better to sit on the third row.

The cabin of the Airbus A320neo aircraft provides accommodation for eight business class passengers in two rows and 156 economy class passengers in 26 rows.

The location of the seats of this type of aircraft is almost the same as the Airbus A320, with the exception of the increased number of rows - 28 instead of 27.

The cabin of the Airbus A321 aircraft provides accommodation for eight business class passengers in two rows and 189 economy class passengers in 33 rows.

The best seats on this aircraft are business class. In the economy class, the most comfortable seats are the third row - it is for this row that you buy extra-comfort economy class tickets. The ninth, tenth, 22nd and 23rd rows are located near the emergency exits - not the most convenient places due to the inability to recline the backs of the seats. In the ninth row there are no seats A and F, in the 22nd row there is no seat F, in the 21st and 22nd rows there are no seats A, B, C. Accordingly, the legroom for passengers of the tenth and 23rd rows has been increased. The 35th row is not the best due to the proximity of the toilets. With children it is better to sit on the third row.

Boeing 737-800 aircraft of S7 Airlines are used in the Winglets modification (with new wingtips). The cabin provides accommodation for eight business class passengers in two rows and 168 economy class passengers in 28 rows.

The most convenient seats are placed in the business class, among the seats of the economy class - the third and 14th row. The 12th, 13th rows are not the most convenient due to the proximity of emergency hatches, the 30th - due to the proximity of the toilets. With children it is better to sit on the third row.

Note! Flight safety rules do not allow passengers with children, animals, the disabled and the elderly to occupy seats near emergency exits. hand luggage must be removed in the upper compartment above the seats.

The Embraer ERJ-170 has 78 economy class seats in 20 rows.

Placement of emergency hatches in the cabin is not provided. Almost all places are the same. The most convenient seats are the first (seats C, D) and the second (seats A, B) rows. The 20th row is not the best for flying due to the proximity of the toilets.

Passenger amenities

Operating passenger aircraft airlines are equipped with sockets for charging mobile devices and other gadgets. Passengers are also provided with meals and drinks (depending on the selected fare). There is no Wi-Fi on board.

Thus, S7 Airlines offers its passengers comfortable flights to many countries in Europe and Asia in comfortable aircraft of several types, with the opportunity to choose both economy and business class seats. The company regularly updates its aircraft fleet, replacing old models with new ones and increasing the number of aircraft in general.

S7 Airlines is one of the largest Russian airlines operating domestic and international passenger flights in different directions. The organization was founded in 1957 and had the original name "Tolmachevsky detachment". The company works in cooperation with the private organization Globus, which some time ago provoked the merger of the two airlines and the emergence of the S7 Group. In total, S7 has 82 operating aircraft that carry out cargo and passenger air transportation to various destinations around the world.

The airline ranks second in Russia, and according to data for 2017, served more than 14 million passengers. In the last decade, the organization has focused on updating the aircraft fleet with new devices and increasing passenger and cargo air transportation. S7 Airlines confidently takes the second place among the airlines of the Russian Federation, and is second only to the state organization Aeroflot. In total, to date, there have been three flight incidents related to the aircraft of this company. All of them happened due to the unstable operation of computer systems and the lack of a fast enough reaction of the crew.

The history of the development of the airline's fleet

During the various years of the existence of the S7 Airlines organization, it used various types of aircraft, which differed from each other in speed, carrying capacity and reliability. One of the first aircraft in the airline were the Soviet Il-86, Tu-154 and Tu-204. In their way, these machines were unique, and were in demand for the reason that they were produced in the Soviet Union and were much cheaper than aircraft manufactured abroad.

In 2004, the director of the airline decided to upgrade the aircraft fleet. A few years later, S7 Airlines refused to use the no longer so relevant and reliable Soviet liners.

In 2008, S7 Airlines entered into an agreement with major aircraft manufacturers Boeing and Airbus. A total of four Airbus-A320s and 15 Boeing-747s were ordered. However, due to the imminent crisis of the organization, it was decided to cancel the order for the supply of the then new Dream-liner.

In 2016, the airline purchased five aircraft from Airbus and issued a lease for the supply of nine aircraft manufactured by Boeing. In the future, contracts were also signed for the acquisition of a number of aircraft from Embraer.

The airline, despite a large number of internal and material problems continued to grow steadily, and improve the quality of services provided. Every year the volume of passenger traffic increased, new aircraft and possible directions appeared.

The airline's current fleet

To date, the airline owns a fleet of 82 aircraft:
