The second is the capital airport Podgorica Airport, which is not very close - 100 kilometers from Herceg Novi, and therefore not very convenient. However, during the tourist season, Montenegro Airlines, Ural Airlines, Transaero, Utair, Yamal, Orenburg Airlines fly here from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ufa, Tyumen and Nizhny Novgorod.

The closest airport to Herceg Novi, just 25 kilometers away, is the airport in the Croatian city of Dubrovnik. However, the closest does not mean the most convenient. The Local History Museum (Zavicajni muzej), established in 1949, houses maritime and archaeological artifacts, an ethnographic collection and a collection of icons. It is located in a historical building of the 18th century. in the late Baroque style.

Kanli Kula (XVII century) translated from Turkish means “bloody tower”, in fact it is a fortress. At first it performed protective functions, and during Turkish rule it served as a prison. In 1966 it was reconstructed, turning it into a theater with an amphitheater on the roof. The Kanli Kula observation deck offers views of the bay and the Prevlaka peninsula.

The Španjola Fortress (Tvrđava Španjola) is located above the city on a hilltop, opposite the entrance to the bay. There are 1000 steps leading up to it. The fortress was built by the Turks in the 15th-16th centuries. on the site of a destroyed one, which was built by the Spaniards. The fortification looks impressive from the outside, but almost nothing has survived inside.

Savinsky Monastery

On the outskirts of Herceg Novi stands the Savina Monastery (Manastir Savina), named after the first Serbian archbishop. This is an Orthodox men's monastery founded in the 11th century.

The monastery complex includes: a cell building, two cemeteries and three churches (Bolshaya Uspenskaya, Malaya Uspenskaya and St. Sava). The monastery church of St. Sava was built in 1799.

The main shrine of the monastery is the miraculous icon of the Mother of God of Savinskaya. Also kept here are the crystal cross of St. Sava (XIII century), decorated with rubies, and a large icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker of the XVIII century; the silvered hand of Queen Jelena; collection of icons; rare manuscripts. In 2005, Emir Kusturica, a famous Serbian film director, was baptized in the monastery.

Island and fortress Mamula

In the Bay of Kotor, opposite the resort, there is the island of Mamula (Ostrvo Mamula) with a round stone fortress-prison (Tvrđava Mamula) of the 19th century, built by the Austrians.

Arza Fortress
