It once operated a bobsleigh track, which is now reminiscent of the winding Bob-run track. On it you can go down to Mürren both on skis and on sleds.

For more experienced skiers, the slopes from Schiltgrat (2145) will be interesting - red, along the drag, and black, rather short. Not bad, but also a short track is on Obere Hubel (2437). The exit from Schilthorn is steep only for the first two hundred meters, further it is easier. Another black slope, below the Kandahar chair, is really interesting: it is a narrow serpentine that nestles against the rocks, with several 180-degree turns and nets for those who do not fit into the turns. Off-piste lovers can recommend the northern slope of Birg (2676), as well as the slope to the village of Gimmelwald (1367). The descent to Lauterbrunnen is not very interesting and is only needed in order to get to the other side of the valley. Until the end of February or the beginning of March, everyone does just that, and later the snow melts below, and you have to go down by funicular.

Wengen

If Murren is located auf der Mauer, "on the wall", then Wengen (1274) is auf der Wange, which means "on the slope". Lying on a spacious sunny terrace, sheltered from the winds by the steep ridge of Mannlichen (2230), it has long served as a kind of base camp for everyone who wants to approach the Jungfrau. The air here is the cleanest, since there is no road transport. But a real train runs to Wengen. The climb here from Lauterbrunnen takes a quarter of an hour. In the Wengen / Grindelwald sector, the largest in the Jungfrau region, there are about a hundred kilometers of slopes and 22 lifts. The wide north-east slopes of Mannlichen, which are served by several four-seat chairs, are ideal for skiers with intermediate skiing experience, and beginners will not be intimidated here. This is the longest downhill track in the world - 4455 m with a height difference of more than a kilometer. If you go along it, not trying to show best time, but exclusively for your own pleasure, it seems almost elementary. The uncomplicated upper section, which has a southern orientation, ends with a narrow passage between the rocks, in front of which it is desirable to slow down; after it, the descent turns to the west (hence a magnificent view of the Lauterbrunnen valley), crosses railway and finishes in the forest zone, at around 1287 m.

A surprise lies in wait at the very end, when many, feeling like conquerors of the world, relax: the warning sign Nur fur gute Skifahrer (“Only for good skiers”) stands before the final roll-out is by no means accidental. Firstly, the final roll-out is very steep, and besides, the western slope strongly lets go by the end of the day, during the night a wide strip forms across it the purest ice, which must be slipped in a straight line - any attempt to slow down will lead to a fall or even a flight off the track.

Jungfrau

Jungfrau (3454) literally means "maiden, virgin". In 1891, the inspired dreamer and at the same time pragmatic businessman Adolf Geier-Zeller came up with the ambitious idea to lay a railway on the Jungfrau. For 16 whole years, the grandiose construction, involving human sacrifices and colossal financial costs, lasted - the result of it became a monument to man's boundless faith in technical progress.

RESTAURANTS

Grindelwald

Gourmets are very popular with Francais in the Belvedere hotel with a rich wine cellar. Excellent cuisine and very elegant atmosphere in Challistubli (Kreuz & Post Hotel) - it is advisable to book a table here in advance. Haute cuisine at La Marmite (Hotel Kirchbuhl), Schmitte (Hotel Schweizerhof). The Adlerstube (Sunstar Hotel) employs Italian chefs who are masters of their craft. At the Rotisserie (Hotel Spinne), candlelit dinners are accompanied by soft piano music.

The Derby Hotel's restaurant, located next to the train station, serves all kinds of fondue and other traditional Swiss dishes. On the same street as the tourist office is the cozy restaurant Hirschen, and even further away is the Pinte (Hotel Bellevue). Barry's in Eiger and the restaurant at the Aspen Hotel are also among the best restaurants for typical Swiss cuisine. The Bodmi Hotel is well worth the climb to dine at Bella Vista: wonderful grilled meats, egg casserole with brains, raclette and a special vegetarian menu - all products from their own farm.

Italian cuisine is available at the Da Salvi pizzeria (Hotel Steinbock) and the Mercato restaurant in Spinne. In addition, the Mescalero disco is located in the latter. Another trendy "dance floor" of Grindelwald is the Challi-bar (country & western style) at the Kreuz Hotel.

At Alte Post, not far from the lift to First, there is a huge selection of local schnapps, where you can settle in for serious apres-ski. Of the mountain restaurants, Berghaus Bort, located at the Firstbahn intermediate station, is interesting. On the opposite slope, at Brandegg station, right under the sheer north face of the Eiger, there is a good Chez Marianne restaurant. Hospitable environment and rustic food at Jagerstubli, which is located on the slope in Grund, a little off the track.

Wengen

Most Wengen restaurants operate at hotels, but they are open, of course, not only for guests. Haute cuisine top spots are Chez Meyer’s at the Regina (15 Gault Millau points), the Parkhotel Beausite and the Caprice: a great chef who has previously worked in several Parisian restaurants. At the Schonegg Hotel (13 GM points), Chef Hubert Mayer offers interesting dishes from the freshest products.

Quality Swiss and French cuisine at Eiger. You can have a delicious dinner in the restaurants of the small hotels Bernerhof and Hirschen, where steaks and other meat dishes are excellently prepared. Swiss specialties can be sampled in the Baren's restaurant.

International cuisine is well presented in the Victoria Lauberhorn's restaurant. Italian food and great wine selection at Ristorante Da Sina. There is also a real English pub, where happy hour lasts not an hour, but two, and night club with live music, DJ and karaoke. There are also discos in some resort hotels.

The best places for apres-ski are Schnee-Bar on the slope in the Bump area, and in Wengen itself the Tanne bar, which is on the main street. Cafe Gruebi, next to the lift station, is famous for its cakes and pastries.

The mountain restaurant on Wengernalp has good food, but quite expensive. An excellent view of the glacier opens from the Eigergletscher terrace. There are several good restaurants at the Kl.Scheidegg station.

Murren

Excellent food with typical Swiss dishes in the restaurants of the Eiger (Eigerstübli) and Alpenruh hotels. It's nice to dine by the fireplace at Jagerstubli (Bellevue Hotel). Stylish surroundings and excellent cuisine at La Grotte (Blumental Hotel) - cooking is done right there, over an open fire, and the accordion is played in the cozy Tavern bar.

There are few independent restaurants (that is, those that are not at hotels) in Mürren. Pay attention to the "rustic" Stagerstubli, where both guests and locals. Young people usually spend evenings in the Eiger gasthof bar, and go dancing to the Tachi disco bar, located in the Eiger hotel. In general, since Murren is a chamber resort, there are few evening entertainment here.

There are several pretty huts in the area of ​​the ski slopes - from everywhere there is an impressive view of the main peaks of the Bernese Oberland. For example, Schilthornhutte, located in the Obere Hubel area, or Schiltgrathusi at the old chair lift station.

For apres-ski before the final descent, Sonnenberg or Suppenal located directly above Mürren are suitable. And of course, while skiing in Murren, it's hard not to visit the revolving restaurant Piz Gloria - even if you're not a fan of 007.
