Tbilisi Sea like. Sea in Georgia

06.09.2024

For many tourists visiting, the most attractive part of the country is, of course, its rather long coastline. The choice is so great that novice travelers often get lost and cannot immediately decide on a particularly profitable and interesting option.

It’s not surprising, because everyone has their own unique and inimitable elements of relaxation. So, for example, a small one borders on Turkey and from there it is most convenient to travel from Georgia “abroad” with clothes, there is something to entertain even the most demanding tourists, and tiny Ureki will help treat some diseases in adults and children.

The sea, despite the fact that it washes all resorts equally, also has different physical properties, including temperature. We will talk more about this and more in the article.

What is the sea like in Georgia?

May be useful: If you are thinking of taking your kids with you, be sure to bring them comfortable slippers.

On the Batumi beach, as well as on the beach in the village of Sarpi, there are paid changing cabins. Not everyone, however, uses them.

Along the beaches there are changing cabins, fresh showers, and clean toilets. It is worth noting that the indicated benefits of civilization in Batumi, for example, are paid. To rinse off you have to pay 1 lari GEORGIAN GEL RATE:

Exchange rates and prices may not be accurate.. But since the waters of the Black Sea are not very salty, you can take a shower upon returning to your room or apartment (especially if you live nearby), and change clothes simply by wrapping yourself in a towel.

Sea water temperature in Georgia

Sea water off the coast of Georgia during the season can reach a pleasant +27 °C (according to weather forecasts). In fact, the temperature usually fluctuates somewhere around a comfortable +25 °C. From time to time, the Black Sea experiences cold currents or storms. In the latter case, tourists have to go to or while away the time having fun in local establishments. Some do not pay attention to the slightly cooled water and continue swimming.

The sea will seem warmest to tourists who choose the month of August for their vacation. The water has already warmed up enough, and the air temperature does not scorch due to its proximity to the water, as a result of which there is no stuffiness.

In winter, the sea in Georgia does not freeze. The water temperature rarely drops below +10 °C.

Beaches of Georgia

The coastal strip of Georgia from the border village of Sarpi to the beginning of Abkhazia occupies approximately 105 km. There are several popular resorts with good beaches along this stretch. Most of them are large or small pebbles, but there are also some sandy ones. Wild beaches can also be found, but they are few and inconvenient to get to. To get a little sense of the diversity of the coastal zone, let us briefly describe the popular Georgian resorts.

There is a convenient bike path along the Batumi embankment, there are benches and a convenient descent to the sea.

Recreation and entertainment at sea in Georgia

On popular beaches in Georgia, such as in Batumi, there is always more than enough. The most unusual, perhaps, include: parachute riding, gliding and flyboarding. And in the village of Kvariati, those who want to see the beauty of the underwater depths can contact a specialized diving center. A small note: in small villages, there is nothing like this even close. You will most likely be bored in them.

Where can you go from Georgia and most importantly what?

From Georgia you can organize a short trip to other neighboring countries, such as Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia. It’s a little problematic, but also possible, to go to Abkhazia. Some travel agencies offer organized excursions to the listed countries, but most likely it will be too expensive and uninteresting. To travel to Turkey (to pick up things), citizens of the Russian Federation and Ukrainians only need to have a valid passport. Every day minibuses run from Batumi. After crossing the border, you need to take a bus to the cities of Hopa, Kemalpasa or the Instanbul Bazaar shopping center.

Buses from Batumi take tourists straight to the end of the village of Sarpi, to the border with Turkey.

Travelers from Georgia to Azerbaijan and Armenia also need a foreign passport. The most convenient way to get there is by train from Tbilisi. And since 2017, Armenia has been accepting tourists from the Russian Federation even with internal passports.

But to travel to Abkhazia from Georgia you will need an official entry permit and an Abkhaz visa. To do this, you need to fill out an electronic form on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia, send a photocopy of your passport and wait for the result within 5 days. Only with a printed permit and international passport should you go to the border (checkpoint near the bridge over the Inguri River). Then, within 3 working days after entry, everyone tourists need to go with a confirmed permit to the consular department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia in Sukhumi and receive the visa itself. Citizens of the Russian Federation and CIS countries are issued it free of charge, but other foreigners will need to pay a visa fee of 660 rubles. Important Feature: You definitely need to return back through the same Inguri checkpoint if you do not want to become persona non grata in Georgia.

Alina's review

Personally, I really liked the Georgian beaches, it was especially pleasant to relax near the Batumi Botanical Garden, in the Cape Verde area. The water seemed amazingly warm and clean, and the beach was almost deserted.

Another pleasant surprise was swimming in the Zhinvali reservoir - a wonderful place for tourists. It is full of amazing places and magnificent views. The water has time to warm up much better than in the sea, and its color fascinates and delights. Swimming in it is really pleasant and comfortable.

Review by Victor

To be honest, the sea is far from the main reason why you should go to Georgia. The beaches here are pebbly. The water will be cleaner than in the version with sand, but going into the sea is not very pleasant, and even difficult for girls.

Georgian resorts do not have particularly clean beaches. Of course, they clean up there, but since tourists are mainly from the CIS, garbage still comes across. But there is also a positive side. Even in Batumi, during the peak tourist season, the beaches are not crowded. There are few tourists. At any time you can find a great place at the very edge of the water.

As a result, I wouldn’t go to Georgia just for the sea, but lying on the beach here after a tiring excursion can be very pleasant.

Resorts and sea of Georgia on the map

On the map we have marked all the resorts listed in the article (so that you can correctly navigate your vacation).

In Georgia you can relax no worse than in European resorts; there is a sea here. However, many prefer to choose a reservoir that is located in the capital of this state. It is located within the city of Tbilisi, or more precisely, in the northeast. Local residents call it nothing less than the Tbilisi Sea (photos can be seen in the article). Why were such associations held? What is special about this reservoir?

Characteristic

The reservoir, as mentioned above, is located in the northeastern part of Tbilisi, next to the national park. This artificial reservoir was created in 1952. It appeared after waters from the Iori River flooded 3 salt lakes, which, united, formed the Tbilisi Sea. The length of the reservoir is 9 km. On average, its width is 3 km. But if you study the depth, it becomes clear why the locals called the reservoir the sea. In some places, the bottom moves away from the surface of the water by 45 m. However, the average depth is 26 m.

Despite its size, the water level often fluctuates depending on the season. Replenishment occurs in summer, autumn and spring. water reaches 10 m.

The Tbilisi Sea is fed mainly by the resources of the Iori River. Water enters it through the Samgori Canal. The reservoir itself is part of the irrigation system and is actively used to irrigate nearby lands.

Climatic features

In the summer season there are always a lot of vacationers here, this is easy to explain. By July, the water in the reservoir warms up to +28°C. Swimming is very comfortable. However, this is not the only advantage. The Tbilisi Sea is located at an altitude of 535 m above sea level, so in the summer it is not hot or stuffy here.

In winter, the reservoir does not freeze. Although, according to official historical information, the lake undergoes glaciation every 20-30 years. Such cases were recorded in 1992 and 2012. There is also information that freezing occurred in the first half of the 60s.

Infrastructure

Since its foundation, the Tbilisi Sea has attracted residents of the capital and visitors as a pleasant place to relax. Therefore, the city administration decided to equip this artificial reservoir with attractions for a great time.

Today, the territory of the reservoir is landscaped. Excellent conditions have been created for vacationers so that they can enjoy their vacation to the fullest. Many entertainment establishments have been built and put into operation here, where you can have a pleasant time with family or friends.

There are also beaches on the reservoir. Here they offer vacationers boat trips on scooters and catamarans. Rescuers and employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations work on the territory around the clock. Based on this, there is no need to fear for safety when visiting the Tbilisi Sea; the beach is always under the supervision of professionals. Not only adults, but also children can swim here.

The shores on the free beaches mainly consist of rocks, so you have to go down into the water along rocky paths. But the paid ones have much more amenities, and they look much more attractive.

In addition, on the territory of the Tbilisi Reservoir there are spa centers with massage rooms, fitness, gyms, saunas and others. There is even a yacht club here.

Fishing is popular in Georgia, and the Tbilisi Sea is no exception. However, fishing here is paid, but inexpensive. The price is discussed with the local administration.

Water park and Olympic village

For a pleasant holiday for children and teenagers, there is a water park on the local territory, which fully complies with European standards. It is considered the largest regional institution of this type. The water park has 12 different pools with salt and fresh water for vacationers. The slides have a height of up to 31 m. There are 6 of them on the territory. There is also a ship that is equipped with a jacuzzi, and guests are offered delicious cocktails on its deck.

In addition to the water park, an Olympic village was built on the Tbilisi reservoir in 2015. It was here that the Youth Olympics were held. On the territory of the village, many houses have been built that can accommodate up to three thousand athletes. When arranging this area, all aspects were taken into account in order to provide guests with maximum comfort during training and for a good rest.

Tbilisi Sea: how to get there

Despite all the advantages, the capital's reservoir has one significant drawback - city transport does not go to it. Only the northern part of the sea can be reached from the nearest metro station, all others can only be reached by a personal car or by taxi, which is sometimes economically unprofitable if you travel every day. Guests of the capital can afford this pleasure because they come for 2-3 days. It has been noted that a taxi takes 40 minutes to get from the center of the capital to this artificial reservoir. And you can always negotiate the fare.

E If you have a few days to intensively explore Tbilisi, and you have already seen all the main attractions, then this post is for you. I will tell you about Tbilisi attractions that are located outside the central part of the city, and where you will have to get from the center by taxi or public transport.
WITH Today we have on the program: the Ethnographic Museum and Turtle Lake, Lake Lisi, the Tbilisi Sea and the “Chronicle of Georgia” memorial.

E The tnographic museum is located in the open air, on the outskirts of Tbilisi on the way to Turtle Lake. It is convenient to combine these two attractions. The museum has a fairly large area, there is a whole village here: various household items from different eras and regions are collected here in hundred-year-old and two-hundred-year-old houses of the same region. The museum bought houses for exhibition, for example, in Adjara, they were carefully dismantled, transported and reassembled on its territory. The interiors, furniture, and even personal belongings and photographs of the previous owners in many houses remained the same. That’s how this village was formed with outbuildings, maranis, and vegetable gardens. There is even a Svan tower (modern, though) and a live goat.

IN Each house has its own “mistress” - a guide who will tell you about its former owners, how Georgians lived in past centuries, and demonstrate tools. In the Adjarian part of the museum there is a unique wooden mosque decorated with carvings. And in the Mingrelian house of the museum, bread is baked in a tone (Georgian oven).

Z The museum is open, but only some exhibitions are open. And in the summer, during the tourist season, life is in full swing here, master classes are held: they bake bread, make mchadi, make churchkhelas, and sculpt clay pots. You can get here by taxi from the city, the entrance ticket costs 3 GEL. The museum has a day off on Monday.

L isi is a small and beautiful Tbilisi lake, as well as a popular vacation spot. There are beaches with sun loungers, summer cafes, baths, sports grounds, and a small park. In summer, there is a boat and bicycle rental, go-karting, and rope parks for children and adults. And in winter it is quiet and peaceful. It’s a nice place to take a break from the summer heat or the bustle of the city and feed the ducks.

WITH Now, at the beginning of 2016, the lake is being improved, and by the summer of 2016 there should be a bike path and a circular embankment around the lake. Now the embankment is only on one side of the lake.
The lake is located on the outskirts of Tbilisi, even public transport goes here, for example, bus 29 from the Technical University metro station.

E then the huge memorial “History of Georgia” in Tbilisi, or rather a little behind it, on the shore of the Tbilisi reservoir. The height of the columns is more than 30 meters, they have bas-reliefs depicting Georgian rulers, important events in the history of Georgia, biblical stories. Nearby are statues of the thirteen Assyrian fathers. Sculptor - Zurab Tsereteli, the memorial was opened in 2003. The memorial offers wonderful views of Tbilisi and the reservoir.
The easiest way to get here is by taxi or car. You can also try by public transport, buses 111 and 60 to the “Military School” stop.

A this is the Tbilisi Sea - the so-called Tbilisi Reservoir, a large lake in the northern suburbs of Tbilisi. The shores of the Tbilisi Sea are both sandy and rocky, with pine trees growing on them, and the water is an unreal turquoise color. The lake is 9 km long and quite deep. This is one of the most popular vacation spots for Tbilisi residents. There is some kind of large recreation center with a water park (we want to explore it in the summer), a yacht club, and several cultivated paid beaches. You can get there on your own by bus 111 from the station or bus number 60 from Grmageli.

A few more photos and that's all for now!

Is it a shame to look on social networks at the happy faces of friends sunbathing on the Black Sea, when you yourself have to spend hot summer days in stuffy Tbilisi? There is a way out, even more than one! You also have a place to relax, sunbathe on sun loungers, breathe fresh air and take a couple of enviable selfies without leaving the city.

1. Lake Lisi. Now there is a well-maintained beach there, you can rent sun loungers (cost - from 5 to 10 lari). On the beach line there is a lounge cafe, a coffee shop where you can have a snack, and several booths with cold drinks. People carry ice cream, sunflower seeds and boiled corn along the beach. On the other side, unsuitable for swimming or sunbathing, you can often see (and join) fishermen. A little further away you can feed the ducks. When the sun is already unbearably hot, vacationers usually move to a forest a few tens of meters from the beach area. There, children and adults play outdoor games or have picnics. By the way, few people know, but on the territory of Lake Lisi there is also a complex of sulfur baths (1), (2). The only inconvenience is the lack of parking and frequent traffic flow. You will have to wait from 10 to 40 minutes for a minibus or bus.

2.Turtle Lake. There are paid (5 GEL – the price includes sun loungers) and free beaches. Unlike Lisi, where it is quite shallow, on Cherepashka the buoys are located close to the shore. Vigilant lifeguards work on the lake and issue long reprimands to those who break the rules and swim beyond the buoys. Here you can rent boats and children's boats (within 5 GEL), there are a lot of cafes and restaurants around the reservoir. There are also children's sports grounds, and sometimes concerts are held in the evenings. Just like near Lisi, there is a forest close to the shore of Turtle Lake. And also, 1 km from it there is the Ethnographic Museum. You can get to Turtle by car in ten minutes from the Vake district.

3. White or Large(old name) lake in Gldani. Entrance to the paid beach costs 3 GEL (sun lounger included). The second side is called free, but, nevertheless, you need to pay 1 GEL for entry. The water is not very clean. There are cafes, but they are not functioning. True, there are slides for children, but they are also not in the best condition. But this place is very suitable for fishing (3). From Gldani, minibus No. 180 goes directly to the reservoir.

4. Tbilisi Sea. There are no problems with roads here. Transport is good. The most popular beach is from the Temka district. The Olympic village has already been built here, and the zoo will be moved in the near future. Various goodies are carried along the beach, there are many cafes and restaurants, a playground and a forest. You can go boating and motorboating. There is also a paid beach (15 GEL), it is located further - towards the Lotkin area, although it is better to swim on the free one. But in the paid area there is a clean pool, albeit a shallow one (4).

Since we are talking about places suitable for swimming, I will also say about the lake located near Tbilisi.

5. Lake Bazaleti. It is located 45 minutes drive from Tbilisi. You can get from Tbilisi by car or by minibus to Dusheti, and from there you can get there by taxi, train or bus in 10 minutes. The air in these places is very good, the area is more designed for tourists. There is a hotel and a residential complex for camps. There is a large children's entertainment area. The water in the lake is clean, almost transparent.

Well, if you can’t get further than the center or the Old Town, but want to swim, look for fountains! Yes, in fact, in Georgia there are no prohibitions or fines for this! You can see this for yourself: walk by the fountain near the Rustaveli metro station in Rike Park - you will see many happy faces escaping the heat!

In Georgia you can relax no worse than in European resorts; there is a sea here. On the northern shore, the entrance to the water is gentle, and on the western shore, the shore consists of rocks, so you have to go down into the water along rocky paths, or dive into the depths from a height. Improvement has not yet reached the southwestern shore and many local residents go down to the water here directly by car. Even on weekday evenings in the summer there are a lot of people here. The bottom is rocky and the depth is shallow. There is an island nearby that turns into a peninsula in summer. Many people fish here. The southern and eastern banks are mainly not used by locals for recreation, as they are heavily silted and livestock often graze here.
Despite all the advantages, the Tbilisi Sea has one significant drawback - urban transport does not go to it. but maybe this is for the better! Only the northern part of the sea can be reached on foot from the nearest metro station, all the rest can only be reached by car. From the center of the capital to the reservoir it takes about 45 minutes by car.
