In the late sixties, the administration of the island of Tenerife planned the construction of a new airport in the south of the island, since the then existing airport of Los Rodeos or the northern airport - TFN, did not meet the technical requirements due to unfavorable weather conditions.
There are quite a few assumptions about miscalculations during the construction of the northern airport, one of which is related to the maps of Nazi Germany. You can learn more about this from our guides.
In 1977, the construction of the TFS airport control tower was completed, as well as the terminal building and takeoff runways. Opened aReina Sofia airport November 6, 1978. The first flight was flight IB187 from Lanzarote. The plane landed at 10:17 am.

Tenerife Norte is another Tenerife airport, located in the north of the island 14 kilometers from the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Sometimes you can hear its old name - Los Rodeos.
Tenerife North Airport (Aeropuerto de Tenerife Norte, TFN) is also international. But for the most part, it is engaged in servicing air traffic between the islands of the Canary archipelago and providing communications with mainland Spain. The Northern Airport has another name - Los Rodeos. It has been preserved since the times when a military airport was located in its place.

Los Rodeos Airport is located in the center of the north-eastern part of the island and is convenient for those who have planned to relax in Puerto de la Cruz, since there are only 25 km between them. The capital of the island, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is even closer to the Northern Airport, about 18 km away. The largest resort of Las Americas is located at a distance of 85 km, and the southern airport is about 65 km.
Tenerife North is not inferior in terms of comfort and range of services to South Airport, but it is still considered auxiliary. This is due to its unfortunate location. The northern airport does not operate flights at night due to landscape features, and due to unfavorable weather conditions inherent in the northern part of the island, it may be closed during the day.
There are no direct flights from Russia in the direction of Tenerife-North. You can get there on a connecting flight with Iberia airlines, transferring at Madrid airport. Ryanair flies from Madrid and Barcelona.
How to get from Tenerife North Airport to the cities of the island
Tenerife North Airport is not a very popular place among Russian tourists, since most flights from our country land at South Airport. However, many fly through European cities, so they may end up in Severny.
If you want to get from Tenerife North Airport, then to the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife it will cost about 2.5–3 euros, to La Laguna - about 2.5 euros, to Puerto de la Cruz – almost 5 euros. Naturally, prices can change over time, but this does not happen often.
There is one bus carrier on the island. You can use lines 102, 107, 108, 343.
Bus 102 goes from Santa Cruz de Tenerife to the North Airport, then to Puerto de la Cruz and back. The bus is an express bus, in addition, it runs around the clock, during the day - at intervals of about 30 minutes, at night - less often. Bus 107 takes you from the airport to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Buenavista. It runs only a few times a day (if you need a schedule, leave a comment), but it also allows you to get to La Orotava. Another infrequent bus is from Puerto de la Cruz airport to Icod de los Vinos. There are also about 10 flights per day, but with stops in rare cities. Bus 343 connects the north and south of the island. You can take it from Tenerife North Airport to South Airport, as well as from Puerto de la Cruz to Los Cristianos. Per kilometer at the first tariff you will have to pay 0.55 euros, at the second - 0.63. Perhaps over time prices will rise slightly, but this happens extremely rarely.
