Unexpectedly for me, and also, I’m sure, for all fans of the Belarusian railway, on the initiative of BC, a diesel train was appointed on the Vilnius-Grodno international route. Through Lida, of course, because There is no direct route through Porechye. Having traveled most of the railway lines adjacent to neighboring countries, I could not help but rejoice at the destination. And the point here is not only about driving across the border: at the beginning of this year, Lithuanian Railways, due to unprofitability, canceled all (!) passenger traffic from Vilnius to the border in this direction (3 km to the airport does not count), and it seemed.. .that's it, screw it... the line for visiting is completely missed. However, no... the native warhead helped. Interestingly, the first news about the appointment appeared on April 1, and given how quiet everything became later, it seemed that it was an April Fool's joke. At least, such a train, frankly speaking, seemed like a fantasy in reality. His entire route did not particularly interest me, so it was decided to travel from Lida to Vilnius. I supplemented the trip with a visit to the Lithuanian cities of Siauliai and Rokiskis, and a test run of the railway lines to them.

On a group of trailer cars, Moscow-Grodno set out at night to Lida. I arrived early, I still had to wait for more than 2 hours, but my train was already on the board.

The train runs interstate, so the ticket price is appropriate. If from Grodno to Vilnius (200 thousand) the price is still comparable to the cost of a bus ticket, then from Lida to Vilnius (150 thousand) is already twice as expensive as a bus on the same route. And then the train arrived in Lida.

9 passengers left Lida, at the Belorussian border station Benyakone one of them got off, another one was removed due to some problems with his passport, one person got on the train - in total 8 passengers went to Vilnius. Not a lot, however... but let's hope that the train will gradually gain popularity and will not be canceled in the fall. On the Lithuanian side of the border I received a stamp in my passport “Stasilos”. Previously, only freight train drivers received these. By the way, the Lida-Vilnius line is still not cut off at the border, as happened with the Porechye-Marcinkonis section, 99 percent due to the fact that it carries the movement of Belaruskali products to seaports.

Interestingly, before the border the speed reached 108 km/h, in Lithuania it was no more than 90 (GPS navigator readings). As I heard with one ear, there was an instructor in the brigade. Apparently, the drivers of the diesel train did not test on the Lithuanian side of the line, so they drove the train under the leadership of someone who had already traveled here. Most likely, it is one of the cargo crews. The train kept its schedule perfectly. In Vilnius, within an hour I transferred to the Vilnius-Klaipeda express and after 2 hours I was already in Siauliai. The train composition under the 70th slipper...

Siauliai station.

The announcement of the appointment of Grodno-Vilnius hangs even here.

The church is not far from the station. In appearance, however, it is a pure Orthodox Church.

The main church in Siauliai is tall and massive...

Gate of the church fence.

I went for a walk around the city center. A fountain of marvelous architecture.

University in Siauliai.

Administrative building.

Pedestrian street called Vilniusskaya.

Yes, Siauliai does not have a lot of architecture. The city was thoroughly destroyed during World War 2.

The bus station, as is often the case, is integrated into a shopping center.

After walking around Siauliai for 2 hours, on this PESA I head along the railway line leading towards the Latvian Daugavpils. But passenger traffic is carried out only to the town of Rokiskis near the border and the station with the same name. This line, it seems, also remained alive thanks to cargo, namely, oil transit from Russia to ports. PESA goes to Rokiškis on weekends, and on weekdays it only goes to Panevezys, which is located on this line.

And this is PESA already in Rokiskis.

Station building.

And from the city side.

On the grass not far away, a self-driving lawn mower was slowly scurrying about.

At the Rokiškis bus station, it is currently being incorporated into the shopping center.

The street leading from the railway station to the center.

I planned to spend the night in Rokiskis. I booked a room in this guest house on Booking for only 12.5 euros.

Room.

Shared kitchen, shower and toilet are also shared.

After accommodation I went for a walk around the city center. The church is large and beautiful, but the time for the photo was bad, the sun was hitting the lens no matter how you look at it.

It's behind.

Central square.

The development of the central square is quite diverse.

Shopping arcades.

There are also examples like this.

Arch with the city coat of arms.

Monument to the 10th anniversary of the Republic of Lithuania. Anticipating your question, I answer... the sign in the girl’s hands has nothing to do with fascism.

In the park, which is located on the opposite side of the square from the church, there is a manor complex. The palace now houses a historical museum.

Outbuilding. There are two of them.

Gatehouse.

Barn.

And a few more outbuildings.
