Motor ship "Valery Bryusov": history, photos, modern realities. Bruce's ship

30.01.2024

Walking along the Crimean embankment and the Muzeon art park, I always looked at the ship “Valery Bryusov” and thought what they would come up with, a restaurant? a hotel? or abandon it altogether, but no, they opened it and there is a lot, a lot of things there, admission is free! When we walked in, it immediately reminded me of something, either the Artplay space on Kurskaya, or the Flacon design factory. It turned out that the project was actually developed by the team of the Flacon factory and the creative workshop “the Dreamers United”. From where I managed to look while my daughter was running around the deck, this is a mini-theater for children under 7 years old “Just a Joke”, they invite you to the performance every Sunday at 10-30, 11-30 and 12-40 “The Story of Nothing” "(cabin 202), language laboratory "MyPeople" for any age, Mams&Paps Art Coffee House with interesting design and drinks for children and adults. They also host concerts and watch movies there. There are designer clothing stores, an atelier, an art gallery... We ran through the cabins almost at a gallop, stopped only in the children's theater - a bright room, bright and beautiful, friendly staff, they told us about the performance, they invited us. And in the Greek cafe “Sito” we pleased with a real Greek salad and “penerli”, or, as we can call them, “boats with meat and cheese”, they are baked before our eyes! The prices are quite affordable - coffee, for example, 100 rubles. In general, those who love olives, oil and Greek sauce can come in. The uppermost deck is open, there is a transparent awning, there is a stage for various events. Wood and metal look great, the views of Moscow are stunning! A beautiful and functional place where you can dress up, eat and drink, watch a movie, learn something and dance. And all this in the fresh air and on the water! Half of the cabins are still in the opening stage, but it’s worth a look.

Information that the passenger cruise ship, which has been in the center of Moscow since June 1993, operating as a berth vessel, was confirmed already this spring. Accordingly, the cultural and entertainment art center, opened on board the ship in 2014, will cease its operation.

From 1993 to 2005, on board the Valery Bryusov, in addition to the hotel and restaurants, there was a casino, and after the ban on gambling, a karaoke center was converted.

In July 2014, on board the ship there was a cultural and entertainment art center “Ship of Bryusov”, developed by the Flacon design factory. In the autumn of the same year the center, but in June 2015 again, which continues to this day.

A week ago, with great fanfare, it was reported about the change in the fate of the ship "Valery Bryusov": "the ship, laid up at the Crimean embankment, is turning into a community of fashionable shops and services, a recreation area on the water and a meeting place for creative groups... Mossy cabins with cribs have been vacated space for showrooms, beauty spots, cafeterias and cultural little places. In addition, there are several luxurious spaces on board for theater, dancing, yoga and fooling around on the Moscow River."
Was it possible to remain indifferent to such information? I didn’t stay, and the next Sunday after the opening we went to see it all with our own eyes.
Looking ahead, I will say that the result of the inspection, to put it mildly, did not quite correspond to the information, however, we were satisfied. However, if you know the story of “Bryusov” and his brothers, which I will also tell you about, then you cannot do without a tinge of sadness...

The first attempt to penetrate was unsuccessful: we arrived too early, the ship was open from 12 o'clock; It would be nice, of course, to find out about this somewhere else besides the gangplank, but alas...
We'll be back in an hour and a half. Now you can come in.

First of all, we go around the decks numbering three. On the tank.

Approximately in the same place, a deck above

Well, I can’t resist filming such a rarity :)

View of the Crimean embankment

Then we move on to studying the “art space”. Hmmm, it seems that the opening (let me remind you, it took place a week earlier) was clearly rushed. The vast majority of the premises are in approximately the same condition as in the photo below, and we are frankly superfluous, being, it seems, the only visitors among the workers and repairmen.
By the way, the girl at the reception (completed and quite decent) when asked directly when all this will open, hesitated and said that probably by August.

There are ready-made premises, like this salon, although they are closed and do not function (shot through a glass door)

Almost the only functioning establishment is this store of gifts and small items.

And in the tween deck (the lowest accessible tier, below the lower deck) they make these handmade lollipops. They should be sold somewhere higher up, but we couldn’t find where exactly. But they gave us a taste: it’s delicious, but it sticks mercilessly to the teeth

And there is also one on “Bryusov”, which is already working and I liked it very much (a separate post about it). And finally, a little about the history of the ship.
"Bryusov" and four of its brothers in the series were built in Austria in 1984-86. This series was one of the last (of those that go on the rivers of Russia today) and the most comfortable: even a sauna is provided. Their fates were different. "Svetlov" and "Demyan Bedny" are still working on the Lena, "Yesenin" - in the Volga basin.
"Alexander Blok", having sailed for only a short time, was laid up on Krasnopresnenskaya embankment and for 24 years turned into a floating hotel, and then a restaurant with a casino; however, then and now again in service. In about the same way as “Blok” (restaurant, hotel, casino, something else), “Bryusov” also existed since 1993.
Here he is seen through the window of a branch of the Tretyakov Gallery behind the inscription "Karaoke"

Now, instead of karaoke and a restaurant, there will be a public art space for hipsters. Well, it's probably better this way.
And yet, one cannot do without this song in the story about the fate of “Bryusov”...

Walking recently through Muzeon Park in Moscow, we decided to visit the widely advertised Ship Valery Bryusov. In Moscow there are a number of art clusters that are already known to Muscovites, such as: Winzavod, Design Factory Bottle and Artplay.

There are not many such “floating” art objects on the embankment where you can freely go, go shopping or just read a book on the sunny deck.

The Bryusov ship is a three-deck river ship of Austrian origin (built in 1986), into which the organizers of the famous Design Factory Bottle. The world's first art cluster on water, Brusov Ship, as the organizers call the Brusov Ship, opened quite recently, in July 2014. In the dashing 90s, the ship had a floating restaurant, a casino, and cabins were rented out by the hour. But that’s all in the past; today, the Bryusov Ship should become a fashionable place among the creative crowd.
Externally, the boat has not changed much, but has only become prettier. So, thanks to the efforts of the St. Petersburg artist, some of its parts acquired a cheerful appearance.

So, we go inside along the ladder.

On the ground floor, visitors are greeted by a small reception desk. There are nice, friendly girls who work there. I can assume that they help visitors find their way.
The premises inside the ship are gradually filled with tenants. In general, it must be said that navigation on the ship is bad. There are no signs (but perhaps there will be when all the rooms are full). To find a cafe, you will have to go through all the floors.

So, there is already a shop of Artemy Lebedev familiar to everyone, an Adidas concept store, a men's hairdressing salon Briolin, and various designer shops. It is also worth noting the space for women, The Tub (hair salon and social club), where you can hang out and get organized.
It seems that in a couple of months this place will be quite cozy and youthful. But many rooms are not yet filled, garbage is visible through the doorways, etc.

There are now two cafes on board: a Greek cafe on one of the decks and the Volna bar on Solnechnaya Embankment, where you can order fresh juices, fruits and drinks. By the way, according to information from the organizers, there should be a secret monocafe somewhere here on the ship. We didn’t find it, maybe that’s why it’s secret?
All this reminds me of a certain shopping mall with a creative twist on the water where no one cares about you. To make a visit to the ship useful, you need to study the program of events, but more on that a little later.

Personally, I really enjoyed Sundeck. To get there, you need to climb the stairs to the very top.

The upper deck offers magnificent, unusual views of Muzeon Park and the embankment.

At the very top of the ship, on the Sun Deck, it is very cozy, the floor is covered with wood. Yoga and dance classes are held here on weekdays. There is also a DJ pool upstairs, music is constantly playing. You can drink something non-alcoholic at the Volna bar.
There is also a lecture hall upstairs, which can also be used for film screenings. We didn’t go there, but I read about it in various sources.

The sun deck is covered with a tent like this, so the yogis or dancers who practice here will not be afraid of rain.

It is planned that the Bryusov Ship will host meetings of various interest clubs, interesting lectures, and educational events.
Through the sun deck you can go to the bow of the ship, from where you can enjoy excellent views of Red October and the sculpture of Peter the Great.

By the way, there is access to air on all decks.

In general, I would like to note the following:

1. If you intend to visit the Bruce Ship, then study the program of events. This can be done, for example, in the VKontakte group https://vk.com/brusovship, or on FB https://www.facebook.com/brusovship. Remember that if you accidentally wander in here unprepared, you might end up bored.
2. If you are going to yoga, you can find out the schedule here yogaboat.ru, and you can also register there.
3. If you walked through Muzeon Park or Crimean Embankment, be sure to visit the Sun Deck of the Bryusov Ship. There you get excellent photos with a head start on Moscow sights.

The motor ship "Valery Bryusov" moored at the Crimean embankment in 1993. At various times there was a hotel, restaurant, casino and even, according to Komsomolskaya Pravda, a brothel. Since 2014, an art center with a simple name - “Ship of the Bryusovs” - has been set up on the ship. It is located near Gorky Park, in the Muzeon garden.

In 2015, Maria Chirgadze, director of the metropolitan retail Babylon, told ViVA la Cloud, the chain’s first store opened on Bryusov. “Gently swaying on the waves, Vodny (“Vodny” is called “Babilon” on “Bryusov”. This is the naming of the chain’s stores - hereinafter in parentheses, editor’s note) opens its doors to those whose skateboard slows down on its own, only when they see Bryusov’s stern ", says the store description on the company's website. Both in the next and opposite cabins of the ship there are shoe stores.

On April 12, TASS reported that the Valery Bryusov was ordered to leave the embankment. It all started with the Moscow Transport Prosecutor's Office - officials determined that “the ship was operating without a water use agreement” and sued the owners. He, according to TASS, agreed with the theses of the supervisory service - and ordered the ship to be removed. ViVA la Cloud was unable to find a court decision in official online rubricators.

The owners themselves talk about the situation as a done deal - the “Ship of the Bryusov” will close its doors on May 15th. Now the project “needs to find a new place” for the ship, the words of the ship’s owner, Nikolai Matushevsky, are quoted in a press release (available to the publication). The Komsomolskaya Pravda article, however, states that “Bryusov” will be “taken to a ship graveyard, where they will be finely grated into needles.” In order for him to crawl under the bridges, the ship's wheelhouse and false pipes will be removed.

The administration of the Bryusov invited tenants to move to the creative space Khlebzavod (near the Dmitrovskaya metro station), Sira Lobyan, PR director of the ship, told ViVA la Cloud. It will be “not free, but maintaining the same conditions,” she emphasized. "Babilon" did not agree to these conditions. “We don’t really like this location,” explained Maria Chirgadze, responsible for retail of the chain. - The store will be open until May 13. We’ll just close it and won’t transport it anywhere.” IN
